Default 6th gear grinding

I bought a used Z about 2 months ago and it drives fine except when I go into 6th gear. When I am driving and I SLOWLY shift into 6th from 5th or double clutch it doesn't grind. However, if I try to shift quickly it grinds into 6th. I parked my car in the driveway and just tried shifting into 6th and it still grinds from neutral to 6th. Could this be a synchro problem or a clutch problems? Any suggestions would be a huge help. It had about 101000 miles when I bought it.

I got an 08 and I get it when I go from 3rd to 6th. Annoying when merging on the freeway. In for conclusions

Generally clutch problems show in all gears. Not just one gear. Considering you have 100,000 miles, this may indicate a transmission problem.

I was kinda guessing that unfortunately. Would it be a better idea to go to a transmission shop and get it fixed or just get a new/used cd009 transmission?

19,000 miles!

The 350Z transmission can best be described as "finicky." My 350Z had a minor problem with first to second gear.

And the 370Z? Same damn thing. First to second gear.

The transmission is not broken. That is just the way it is.

yea, i read that when i was having a "chirp" when downshifting from 6th to 5th. the dealer fixed that by goin in and tightening up... I think shift plate? I cant remember, and i dont know **** about trans issues.. But now when i get goin 1, 2, 3rd getting onto the freeway, i get up to speed and want to cruise in 6th, i have to shift, shift and shift again just to go 4,5, 6th.. lame sauce

So is it possible to rebuild a transmission? Or am I better off buying a new or used transmission?

My 2003 transmission was replaced in 2006 with a new transmission. The original transmission was grinding when going from 6th down to 5th gear. The new transmission was better in every way (no grinding, smoother shifting, and less “notchy”). --Spike
