Default Transmission Grinding

So let me start with giving a little history on the car:

I replaced the engine approximately 4 months ago. When i replaced the engine, i decided to change the clutch and the pressure plate (used) since the engine was already out and it made it easy.

After driving the car for a couple of days, i took my car to get aligned. When i received it, my gears were grinding. So i approach the manager since i thought they had screwed it up while taking it out for a spin. So, i get the car the next day and according to them... they said that the clutch fluid was low, and they bleed the system... I really didnt believe them but my problem went away

So whatever, 4 months later... my car started grinding all the gears again. It wont grind the gears as if i missed a gear, it'll grind when its all the way in and i release the clutch.

If i shift any time after 3000 rpms, itll grind.
IF i shift under 3000 rpms, it wont grind.
It will grind in all gears if over 3,000 RPM.

What do you guys think it could be?
Air in the system?
Syncros?
Clutch and pressure plate?

I replaced the clutch and pressure plate with a used one but did not replace the flywheel.
I changed the transmission oil.
I checked the fluid, and the fluid is full.

Please help!!!!!

At first, i thought it was the pressure plate as well... Is there anyway to check it without having to remove the transmission.

Why would the problem go away and return 3-4 months later?

Have you checked the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder?. Since the problem went away after the shop topped off the fluid, it might be low again.

".....it'll grind when its all the way in and i release the clutch."

If the gears grind even when the shift lever is all the way "in gear", I'd be looking at the shift linkage.

I did check all fluids and they're all maxed out.

This weekend, i may try to bleed the system. This may seem like a logical problem. WHy would it come back after a few months though?

The engine has never stalled nor is there any vibratation during take off.

I'm pretty sure its the 008 tranny. It's a 2003 G35.

Do you think it may be the shift guide that is located on the shifter? There's a guide that lets the gears only go so high/low. But wouldnt it have gave me the problem since the get-go.

Another note, it wont grind at all if i downshift into any gear, no matter how high the RPMS.

Also it seems to help if i let the rpms drop while shifting. It'll sometimes not grind or grind very minimal.

I'm guessing it has something to do with pressure...

Is it possible you're having clutch chatter, and mistaking the sound for gear grinding?

Chatter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOWe9...eature=related

Grinding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yturC...eature=related

This one is actually the starter, but the sound is similar. MUCH higher frequency than chatter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGYsYOSAZhA

It's definitely grinding! It's not the starter nor chatter. I had a bit of chatter before changing the clutch.

Another note i may add is... If i shift very slow, no matter how high the RPMS are, it wont grind. So another words, it only grinds when shifting normal/fast, or when i rev up the engine and shift fast.

Also, the clutch does feel spongy.

I still don't see how it can grind if the lever is all the way in the proper position. At that point the proper meshing of the parts (sleeve and synchronizer) should have already been accomplished.

Well that's what i find weird as well! It's not a grind when you miss a gear, it's more of a grind once inside the gear, as if the clutch is not fully engaging.

I'll try to post a video later tonight.

That grinding noise doesn't sound like a worn syncrho grind. I had that exact same grinding noise when I used the wrong fluid (GL5) in my transmission in my older car.

I would change out the fluid and bleed the clutch again. Or maybe replace the master and/or the slave cylinder if it's cheap. Many aftermarket ones are very cheap.

I doubt you are experiencing grinding caused by worn syncrhos. It is very possible that the pilot bearing or the throw out bearing are broken.
