Default How is 4th generation tranny?

For those of you who had 4th generation tranny installed including the cluch pedal assembly, how is it? Did it really fix grind & knochy problem?

Please give some feed back on how the tranny is.

I'm having the tranny replaced now with what I assume is 4th generation because they say I'm getting a new clutch pedal as well. I'll let you know how it goes. I have heard that there were some very unhappy folks that had this done however.

I am one of the unhappy ones. I still have a grind issue even with this 4th generation tranny.

Also Nissan is not authorizing the replacement of the pedal assy anymore. Seems the new tranny has been hit and miss. MOST of the 20+ we've replaced of the new generation have been just fine. I know of 3 customers that are still having issues.

Ok I got my new clutch and tranny and so far I've got 500miles on it and...........I like it. so far so good. It's still a little notchy and the throw is a little longer but.......it's OK. I've got my fingers crossed that I won't have to do it again in 5K miles.

My Z was built 3/03 and the tranny shifts like butter. The Z I test drove at another dealership, before I bought mine last may, displayed many of the transmission problems you guys talk about. Basically I was like, "what the hell is wrong with this clutch!!!". Now, here is my question. How can Nissan claim to have a fix for a problem that is NOT inherently present in every Z? I know of Z's built after mine that have crap transmissions, but mine shifts even smoother than my Acura. Could there be something else causing the problems???

At this point, I don't think its the tranny. I think its something else thats causing the grind & knochness.

Its funny... not really but... everyone always says that. Until THEY have the problem with the transmission. So don't be so quick to say "its the driver" cuz that sounds like dealer BS or NNA trying to shrug it off as a consumer problem not theirs. There is obviousyl something wrong with the transmissions if Nissan is on their 4th generation... it is an undeniable problem, which of course they will deny. =/

And how the hell can it be the "driver" who is creating the notchiness of a transmission? It is either smooth or it isn't...

Sorry for venting... just a tired lemon Z owner.

Default Feel free to drive my car and try to **** smoothly!

I am tired of this crap people are saying that have no idea what this problem is like. I have had stick based cars all of my life and have never had a problem like this. In fact, the owner of my company has the exact car that I do (produced in August of 2002) and his transmission is perfect, hot or cold. I have driven his car at least twenty times and NEVER had a clash or a grind or any type of notchiness and I shift it much quicker than I (can) shift my car.

This is a car specific thing and I agree with SSK0771, this has got to be something other than the transmission since I am on my third at this point with the same exact symptoms each time!

Had to rant as well!!!

For those of you who say it's the driver, You don't know what the hell your are talking about. You don't know how fraustrating it is to have 3 trannies replaced and still have an issue. I work from 8 am to about 8 pm or even later sometimes every day. I don't have time to go back in forth to the dealer and playing phone tag with NNA. Also, I am not the only one who is still having this problem. Unless you know how it feels, don't say it's the driver

i think it's the luck of the draw, mine was built dec02, i powershifted it a few times after 1200 to see how it would take it, now i just shift hard at redline but not powershift, and it's great except sometimes i hit 5th going for 3ed.
