What you need to do is pull up on the window switch till the window stops. It will probably drop due to being un calibrated. Pull up on the switch again and let off. The window should stay up this time (you just over rode the pinch protection.) Pull up on the switch again and hold for approx. 3 seconds. Now push the window switch all the way down till it stops then let off the switch. You are going to then push the switch down again and hold it for approx. 3 seconds. Pull up on the switch till the window goes all the way up. Let off then pull up once more and hold it in the up position for approx. 3 seconds. This should fix your problem.

according to the service manual, in order to calibrate it you need to press the reset button on the motor. I forgot the exact details. I have the same issue with my driver side door window, and tried autotrix's fix but it didn't work. However I wasn't completely sure if I was to do those steps pressing auto or not? Can you clarify, autotrix?

I could really use some info on this too my passenger side window has the same problem I have factory original window motor in the car. And I read a lot of people having trouble with the reset using the switch.

Youtube it there are a bunch on there. But remember you have to have the door closed in order to do this. That is how I got mine to reset.

Default My driver window still won't stay up.

I took my car and recently had the roof painted. I had my driver window motor replaced 5 years ago, but still have not been able to use it. I keep it locked up. The guys tried to correct it, they used the YouTube fix, and even pulled off the door panel, they had no luck.
with the rains in Fl, I'm afraid to try this and it get permanent stuck down.
does this actually work? We are at a loss.
my only next step is to the dealer, and I hate to get ripped off.
mine is an 03 it's still like new, but having issues with lights staying on, seat motor issues, and that damn window. 84k miles. Touring edition.2003
Mine goes up, down, up, down. It won't stay in any position.

I'm not sure I (or anyone reading this) understands exactly the problem you describe...
Are you saying the window goes up and goes down, but the automatic function is not working?

I'm saying, it goes up and down non stop, won't stay up, and won't stay down. Its non stop. I have to keep it in the locked up position all the time. In other words, it is always locked so that it will stay up. If I unlock it, (window switch lock) then it continuously goes up and down all by itself. Hope that makes sense. It won't stay up, and it won't stay down. Its crazy!

If the recalibration procedures do not work, you probably need a new window motor. The motor has a limiter that operates on a 5v input. If that is not working, your window won't work on the automatic function and may malfunction when operated manually (the window will just keep opening and closing).

Hey Lucy,

I'm going through the same thing. As Spike said, there is a terminal on the window motor harness that needs to show 5V when the window is up. If that is not there, the switch will bring it down.
I changed my window regulator for a new one (OEM), and bought the reman motor from Advance Auto Parts. It is strong, quick, and works like a charm, but.... it doesn't hold the 5V, I've checked with the multimeter; and after the reset it does get to 5V. But once the window comes down that 1/2"; boom, gone. And the auto function doesn't work.
My next action now is to replace or get my money back with Autozone. I might end up with the new OEM motor. Another $100 gone.

Here is the testing you can do for the limit switch (5V) signal from the service manual. Mine is a 2003, so it's the GW section, page 35. Let me know if you need it, I can send it to you by e-mail.

Br,
Al

Thank you, although I have no idea what you are talking about, in the manuals. I will pass it onto my Husband.
I don't know about you, but this is driving us nuts! I have kept mine in the up(locked) position for 5 years, I just don't even use the windows, but it would be nice to have them . They work, they just dont stop going up and down. I wonder what the dealer would charge.
My husband bought a manual, so he is going to check it all out this weekend. He has already replaced both door handles because both stopped working too.
I have had my Z for 15 years, I bought it in 04 . Mine is an 03 also. I only have 84k miles.
I plan on keeping it until it won't work anymore. Lol
aj, I messaged you my email.
thanks again!

Some updates. I've returned the reman motor to Advance Auto.com, and ordered a new OEM from Z1 motorsports (and some PCV silocone hoses, and a PCV valve, and a PCV valve o-ring........). I will put it on during the weekend and tell you if the OEM motor is the real deal. Well, it needs to be, since it was 258 dollars + freight.
Lucy, PM and e-mail sent!

Al

Hey,
Yesterday I've installed the new OEM motor. That is the real deal; I didn't even need to reset the window, it just worked out of the box. I already had my regulator on the top position, maybe that was the reason. Then I took the opportunity to reset the motor on the passenger side, and I have now 2 windows working.
So, all in all, don't bother with something else, just go for the OEM one.

Br,
Al.
