I would like to know how they know the sprockets are bad without opening the timing cover. Is your engine unusually noisy?

I would love to take a gander at this $4500.00 repair We can get you fixed up no doubt. The only reason for a bill that high is because you are building a motor haha! Call the shop we can schedule an appointment. I already am pretty sure what the deal is considering we work on so freaking many of these cars day in and day out!

Default high cost repair

Not to bring up an old thread but I would REALLY like to know what codes you were throwing that caused this pricey repair. My guess is it was either a P0340 or P0345 or a code for the VVT solenoids. The sprockets play a large part in the variation of the valve timing and the cost of the repair isn't for anything more than mostly labor. It's about $1,000 to $1,500 in parts and the rest in labor. I know because I am a mechanic and I am currently fixing the same problem on my Z. I have an '04 Touring M/T. The Revs starting to get lower and lower until I finally couldn't rev past 2,500 RPM and got codes P0340 and P0345. I replaced the two sensors and the P0340 went away but P0345 still remained and all other components I tested were in perfect working order. So long story short, if your cam sprocket fails you will throw codes and your vehicle will not run properly like the timing is off. But if I got off topic here all I would really like to know is what were the codes that you had when you brought your vehicle to be repaired. If you could remember and please let me know I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.
