Camshaft sensor FAIL
03 model BUT of course it is not covered by the recall. Dealership charged me 120 to tell me I needed to replace it and wants another 200 to do it. I am 19 and do not have money to blow so I want to do this myself. It is Bank 1 so passenger side. I found the camshaft sensor for 55 bucks at autozone. Can someone explain how to do this or send me a link as well as give me any tips if this has happened to you? Thanks

Check here for the FSM: https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance...anual-fsm.html
It has complete instructions for replacing the camshaft sensor yourself.

I changed this myself as i had the same problem.Very easy to do, If you can change your own oil you can def do this!
the sensor is located in the back side of the engine easily noticable by the green connector it is attached to (the sensor is black).Make sure engine is cold before you start,1.Disconnect battery, 2.unscrew the sensor by using a 10mm wrench, there is only 1 bolt holding it to the engine, then disconnect from the green connector. there is a little sliding switch on the green connector in order to release the black sensor make sure you do that in order to disconnect. mine was in there pretty tight, make sure its unlocked before you try to disconnect. Then install new sensor.
Wait an hour or two for the ecu to reset and then reconnect battery.. then you should be good to go.
No reason to go to any mechanic or dealership for this.

This is a good thread with some additional info as well: https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance...2004-350z.html
...but I always like the FSM since it includes detailed instructions.

If I remember correctly, it just takes a 10mm socket and is a bit of a tight squeeze, but you shouldn't have to remove anything else. The driver side (crank sensor) is a bit more trouble.

I had the same issue, and the obd reader stated the cam sensor on bank 2 (passenger side) needed to be replaced.
We did so but did not disconnect the battery till after. The problem persisted, then after clearing the codes a couple times it went away and was good for 30 min drive, then when i went back to my car a couple hours later, it shut off during idle and all the lights came back on...any advice?
