Default 350z sluggish

Hi everyone, trying to help out a buddy. He just got his Z a few months ago 2004 6 speed. He decided to take it out and tear it up anyways after a few passes on a back country road his engine started to miss really bad. He got it home and I looked into the ignition system first. I noticed his plugs were not gapped properly so I gapped the plugs other than that everything seemed to be fine. After gapping the plugs and re-installing it stopped missing but is running very sluggish it doesnt have the instant torque that it had before when you slam on the accelerator it revs up quick but doesnt pull like before... Timing issue? Maybe Knock sensor retarded timing? Anyone had this happen and have any other ideas of where we could start looking? Thanks guys!

Start off by making sure you did the correct gapping and disconnect the battery overnight.

Gapped at .040, and reset the ECU allready by disconnecting the pos terminal for 30 min.

I missed the part where you said it revs up quick but doesn't accelerate, that certainly sounds like a slipping clutch. As for the sputtering issue depending on how old his plugs are I might recommend just replacing the plugs and wires bc it sounds like he had a bad connection.
