How do you check connection of button that opens trunk?
I wanted to know how to access the connection of this button. My trunk has started opening on its own and found out that sometimes the button stays in the open position.
Thnx in advance

learned this the hard way.. the trunk release button seems to be powered by the molex connector on the driver's side door. Whenever that connector became loose (i have extra audio cables running through it and didn't sit snug) the trunk button would stop working. Tightening it would resolve the issue... Does that connector seem to be ok? All other door functions working?
hmm just read that the button is stuck in "open position" so my previous post wont apply..
I am assuming the button stays open because sometimes the trunk might be open and when you press it it doesn't do the release. But you keep pressing it and then it does. This hood popping is frustrating
thnx again for the replies, this will be my project for the weekend.
when you press the button by the license plate, do you hear the actuator trying to work? when the trunk is open, will it close or does it just bounce back up? my hatch actuator went bad, nissan wanted like $180 for it or something stupid, i picked one up at a junk yard for $35 and it works great now.

When I press the button it works and I can hear the actuator working but sometimes the button doesn't do anything like it already is open. It works but it's like sometimes it gets stuck or something. The trunk always closes never bounces back.

i had the exact same symptoms... ensure that the molex at the driver side door is firmly connected... sometimes when i would open n shut the door, it would tighten the molex connector and i would have a working button again.
Well it's super easy to take the plastic molding in the back of your trunk off and unbolt the latching assembly to play around with the actuator (hit the open trunk button by the license plate and see what it all does [or doesn't do]). Even if it's not the issue, it'll help you understand how it all works, or it did for me at least.
Little update, Yesterday I took off the rear bumper and disassembled the housing of the button and the license plate lights. It was full of gunk so I just gave it a thorough cleaning, connections, button etc. and put it back together. On a side note, in the process of taking out the rear bumper I came across the two screws you have to turn 90 degrees...they were a PITA. Anyway put a little w40 inside the button were the springs are located and put it back together. So far so good, everything is Ok. Will keep you updated on the progress.

Do you have a copy of the Service Manual? If not I can post the trouble shooting for what Nissan calls the “Back Door”.
Also, as far as I can tell the 2007 350Z harness from the Body Control Module (BCM) to the back door does not have a connector in the driver side door.
