Where should the initial RPM be at startup?
Hi guys,
I was driving my brother the other day and he made a comment during my car startup that the RPM noise is rather high. During a cold start, the RPM needle jumps to 2000 initially. It drops to 1100-1200 until it warms up. At that point, the RPM is sub-1000.
My only concern is whether the 2000 RPM at initial startup is something to be concerned about?
Thanks everyone.

Secondly,in answer to your question---NO.
If you're concerned about the idle, you can always run the learning procedure and it should correct any problems you might have....

Yeah I discussed this with a few mechanics. They explained catalytic converters need to be hot to do their job and when the car is cold it raises the RPM's to get them hot quicker.
In my case I have an '08 HR with test pipes and idle starts high even when warm out. Since it can't get a reading from the cats, that aren't there, it just operates on the assumption they are cold and need to be warmed up. The starts at ~2000ish and slowly lowers to aroudnd 900 over a few minutes when warm. I dont know about cold starts as it has been in the shop when I have been paying attention. But I think it is safe to assume that would take longer.
Hope this helps
