Default Issue while pumping gas TSB

I know this has been talked about before on my350z that is how I found out about this common issue.

I have a 06 350z and I took it to the dealership yesterday to have the TSB performed under the 7 year 70,000 mile extended warranty for this common issue. They had my car all day yesterday and they said that they have replaced the shutter valve.

I picked up my car today and when to go pump gas and the same thing happened it stopped between half and 3/4 of the tank. I called the dealership and told them that it’s doing the same thing and on the notes the technician said that they had relapsed the shutter valve in the gas tank.

Now I don’t really know what they really did and my car at the end of the day is still having the same issue. The service advisor said it’s probably a different issue and that I will have to bring in the car for them to diagnose it again.

What do you guys think is the real issue here????

The tsb for this issue does not indicate replacing the valve.

It is a sheet metal shield that keeps a splash of fluid from premature shutting off the nozzle.

I've got the parts in hand, just lazy about installing them.

I also had the same problem on my 07. At the time it had 16,000 miles. The solution: try a differerent gas station. The bps in my area were having a problem with their pumps, no matter what the dealer did i was having the same problem. I've switched to shell and have yet to have a problem since.

I don't think the issue is the gas station because I have been using the same gas station for years and all the sudden I have problems pumping gas. I have also tried a new gas station yesterday after I picked up my car and my car did the same thing.

I think im just gonna take my car back to the dealership and see what they find. Im also gonna make them clean out the smell of gas in my car idk what the hell they did but now the inside of my car smells like someone spilt gas in my car. I alway hate taking my car to the dealership cuz it seems like they never fix anything they always either lie or break something else...

Some people have turned the gas pump upside down and it seems to work. Becareful not to over fill doing this. Filling up this way seems to bypass a safety feature at the pump. But some folks have had success doing this. Probably same thread you read about this issue. Do a search and read. About 10 pages worth. Also some good drama about two guys arguing about the fix too.

UPDATE!!!!!!

So on tuesday I dropped off my car back at the dealership. They had my car over there for the past 4 days. They ended up verifying that there was an issue. So the dealership contacted Nissan and Nissan gave them the ok to replace the gas tank. I really hope replacing the gas tank has fixed my issue. I have not tried to pump gas into my car since the repair, to my surprise, the dealership pretty much gave me a full tank when I picked it up.

Since my gas tank and shutter valve have been replaced my entire car inside and out has had the smell of gas. I told the dealership to get rid of the smell but they stated since they had to go through the passenger side to get to the gas tank that is why there is a smell of gas inside of my car. They also stated the smell should be gone in about 3-4 days... Is this true??

**If you guys are having any issues pumping gas and your car is not under any type of warranty, the issue is covered under a 70,000 7 year warranty the dealership will not tell you this since many of them do not know this!!

The smell should go away. May want to sprinkle some carpet fresh on the lay in carpet on the hatch to help. Spray some Frebreeze on it. When I detailed cars, an old trick I did, was turn the vents on high and spray some Lysol on the outer vents near the windshield for 15-20 seconds or so each side on the vents. Believe it or not, his really helped make the cigarette smoke smell disappear in most cars.

I had that problem also. I replaced the shutter valve and cleaned the gas level sensor on the fuel pump(used alcohol and a q-tip). Next time I pumped gas, it filled. Then a few months later I had the same issue (tank not filling). I believe my tank was filling but the fuel gauge was wrong. I pulled the fuel pump from behind the passenger seat and cleaned the sensor again. It has been filling up ever since. It may not be the shutter valve issue but rather a dirty fuel level sensor. If you still have an issue, tell the dealer to clean the sensors on the fuel pump or clean them yourself. You can access them from behind the seats inside the glove compartments, simply remove the bottom of the compartment, remove a few screws on the circular fuel pump cap, remove the fuel pump (gently), and look on the float valve arm near the fuel pump and you can see the sensor.
