Default headlights stopped working.. what should i do??

alright guys my head lights haven't been working for about a week now. i need help asap because this is my dd. i have the stock hid's on a 2004, so just single xenon i guess? im really bad when it comes to lighting, electrical, etc.. so any advice is great.

what do you guys think it is? do i need a new bulb? do i need to just re-seal the headlight and let it dry out? do i need new headlights, ballasts, and bulbs? PLEASE HELP!!

facts:
-both passenger and driver stopped working at same exact time
-moisture is getting in because it looks like a tsunami went on inside the headlight
-inner fender liner has been out of the car (would that help cause it?)
-high beams and daytime lights still work

did you open your headlight lens?

sounds like you got a good start

replace inner fender
reseal headlights (if you did open your headlights)
(rear dust boots properly screwed in? any point of entry you can see?)
dry everything
buy new bulbs

headlights have never been opened. rear dust boots are screwed in properly. the car has 90k miles on it and i've never had a problem with it.

so you're thinking just replacing the bulbs will do the trick? theres definitely a way moisture is getting in right? there has to be. so do i need new head lights or can i just have these re-sealed?

find a ballast that you know works and try that on boths sides and if they still do not work then try it with a bulb,

it sounds like you might have gotten the ballasts wet or bulbs wet enough for them to blow

hid bulbs are very sensitive and fragile, they dont like water for sure

Yes they would, and D2R would be good
I would suggest buying from one of our sponsors
I bought a pair of 6000k and they are very nice, only have a couple hours since i dont drive late at night that often

Its only a few extra bucks compared to your link but quality/service/forums would be worth it

try buying a bulb, a cheap bulb from ebay and see if that works. If not, then the condensation is probably messing with your headlights. You will need to take them off the car and take out the wiring and let them dry. But its odd that there is moisture if you have never opened them up before....

just ordered

http://www.ebay.com/itm/130592171024...84.m1439.l2648

and just ordered new fender liners. hopefully everything will work out. are the head lights hard to take off? lol i'd imagine not.. i just dont know what to do about the condensation now. what if it just does the same thing to the new bulbs.

remove front bumper
remove headlight
check headlight housing for damage

BINGO. How many times have you driven in the rain without your fender liners attached? There's a reason why they're made for the car. That most likely caused the ballasts to stop working for the low beams.

There are plenty of threads you can search for on how to troubleshoot the situation, and how to take off the front bumper/headlights. I've seen other threads with the same diagnosis.

^ so could the fender liner be causing the condensation? i'd rather it be that than the seal in the headlight going bad.

The fender liner itself won't cause it. Having it detached from the car will. Have you driven in the rain with it off? I ask this because there have been other threads where members say water/condensation has gotten in there because this option has been taken.

Everything else explains itself as to why your low beams/ballasts aren't working properly. There's a reason why fender liners are made for a car.

But that doesn't rule out that your headlight seals are bad either. You'll have to troubleshoot it.

it is 100% your fender liners.
Not could be, not kind of, its the reason.
Headlight seals are mostly likely 100% fine.. the ballast has external wiring that is not meant to have water on them, and is extremely high voltage.. id imagein you blew your fuses and possibly fuses of another circuit.. and most liklely the under hood behind battery fusese before you blew a ballast.. ballasts wont go out together at the same time/moment.. that sounds like a relay or a fuse for SURE.

Hope that helps.. i had the same issue.. and have been elbow deep up the @ss of the inside of these headlights.. i know them very well.. that elbow is not meant to keep water out when its directly open to the elements.
You will get moisture on day ONE when you drive without them in rain, and alot of it i might add.. also, looking at how ridiculously close to you tire the headlight wiring and ballast are w out the liners is scary as hell... ballasts are cheap on ebay. Remans are avail for 70 bucks each.

Clean all your connectors as well before re install.

Aside from clearing moisture stains which requires taking them fully apart.. youd not even have to remove the bumper or headlights to fix this and re install new ballasts.

Do your fenderliners while your at it lol.

can you, in dummy proof form, like pm me a step-by-step on what i need to do? and what i need to order? you would be the best ever.. also does anybody think there is a way to put fender liners back in even though my front fenders were rolled/pulled and the clips in the fender that hold the liner in are out and can't be put back in?

I will.. can't at the sec but yes..if you FULLY clean ur fender and the liner, you can get 2 in wide strips of industrial grade Velcro and run it along the edge carbon inside ur fender.

i don't know about the fender liners being the problem. Ive had both my fender liners off for a year, driven in the rain multiple times, AND my passenger side headlight rear/bottom has a crack from an accident a year ago, and my headlights still work fine.

then your randomly lucky.

99.99% of the time, these water inheadlight threads are always by someone w no fender liners..
and my own experience.. i had no fender liners for a touch as well.. on day one of rain, bang.. water in headlights.

ANyways, i bought new fender liners and even new fenders as mine were cut too.. bt before i did so, the velcro was the plan for me as well.. you need it VERY clean before you apply it. as in clean w alcohol etc.

so tonight we checked all the fuses behind the battery, their good. tried a new bulb, didn't work.. so that narrows it down to 2 options, right? either a bad ballast, or the relay needs to be replaced?
