Default Help: OEM car alarm issue

Hi everyone,

I have some questions about the OEM alarm on my 2003 Z. Its beginning to be a real PITA. Every time it thunderstorms it sets my car off, every time I leave my door open too long (usually during cleaning) it sets the alarm so when I shut the door the alarm goes off etc.. Its just beginning to really annoy me, so is there any way to re-program it? If not then is there a way I can completely/permanently shut it off. I still want full functionality of my power locks.

thanks in advance,

Levi

Perhaps every time there's a thunder storm, someone is trying to break into your car?

Jk, it sounds like that would be a hardware issue, perhaps an impact sensor not functioning properly, not a programming issue. Hopefully someone on this forum has experience with car security systems and can be of more help!

I thought the OEM alarms didn't have impact sensors? Don't they only go off when the driver side door is opened?

As far as i know my car has the oem alarm system and it must have impact sensors. The reason i say this is because the alarm sounds briefly when I'm working on my car and say i use a hammer or something to help break a nut loose.

I have no idea what the issue is with my car but the POS alarm randomly went off again yesterday and this morning. Happened yesterday when i was standing outside talking to my neighbor, no where close to my car and it just started going off. This morning it went off in the parking lot at my work.

Its getting annoying and the only thing i can think of is trying to disconnect the whole system. So that is what i will be looking into tonight after work. Anyone know if there is an easy way to do this?

Checked into it. Definitely no impact sensors on the OEM alarm.

After doing a little more research i found that the hood latch sensor has been known to be in issue on the Z. This got me thinking and i realized that my alarm issues only started after i switched my hood. I disconnected the sensor so we will see over the next couple of days if it fixed the problem. Thanks everyone for the help.

it all depends, sometimes you can upgrade the alarm at the dealership it'll be the same one they'll just add a
sensor to it with a on/off switch. If you do have it you should see a green led light on the bottom of the drivers compartment kind of where the gas button is at. I have it on mine it and it used to be really sensitive but afterward why it has de on/off switch on te back so you can turn off the sensor or if you follow those wires from the switch or gonna see a little box on there your gonna see its says Min/Max kind of like the amplifiers with a wheel, if you do find it you can adjust the sensor from there I have it right in the middle so it won't go on with any little thing unless they hit the car.
