Default Bad Shaking when taking off in 1st from idle

Hey guys ive been searching but couldnt seem to find anything that really answered this fully. I have a 2005 base 6mt with about 75k on it and sometimes I will be taking off from a stop at a light or something and the whole car will shake, sometimes really bad. Ive drivin many manual cars before its not just me engaging crappy it feels like the clutch is slipping but the thing is it seems to deliver power even when shaking. Usually when a clutch slips u get no power and just a bunch of revs correct ? Dont know if its a problem just been worrying resently.

Thanks in advance for any help

Seems like clutch shudder to me. I've always had it a little bit but not so bad the whole car shakes like crazy. You can adjust the launching style to try to minimize it, or get a new clutch and flywheel that is in better shape.

Ok, thanks for the reply djamps thing is i have never launched this car yet but basically ur saying that my clutch is worn to an extent thats the only reason this is happenening? So if I leave it until the clutch starts to really go can anything else be damaged other then the flywheel (obviously that will be ****ed up if i let it go to long but i hate the stock one anyway)

Ive done the mash the gas in 6th gear at like 50 mph and it doesnt slip at all. When we first bought the car we thought we would have to replace the clutch within a month or so thats what my mechanic (who checked the car out for me) said. But its been 6 months since then, guess time will tell..

oh ya and only mods i have on it are eibach prolines and an injen cai

ok heres what you do:

BE VERY CAREFULL< DONT BLAME ME IF YOU RUN SOMEONE/thing OVER!!!!

1: you need 2 people.
2: open the hood, and have 1 guy looking at the motor and the other in the car.
3. have the person in the car, turn the car on
4: put the parking brake on, and step on the gas.
5: while doing step 4, put the car in drive, and rev a bit ( this causes the torque of the motor to be directly transfered to the mounts and not the wheels)

Do step 5 in reverse as well.

NOW the guy outside has to look for ANY movement in the mounts, the engine should not just move around 100% freely. If the mounts dont show a proper holding of the engine they are prob bad.

it could be a host of things. look for leaking diff mounts, clutch shudder, bad engine mounts, trans mount, etc. check all the simple stuff first before you get to the more technical side of things

Ya I checked the diff mounts a while ago theres no fluid and they didnt seem to be cracked anywhere.

Is it true that if the tranny mounts were gone it would make the shifter bounce around like crazy? This is what ive heard , how do i go about checking the tranny mount?

Ya after a while it will idle with no pretty much no studder at all right around 750. However when I turn the car on from sitting overnight itll rev up to around 2250 but goes down rather quick after a few seconds dont know if thats normal or not.

Just to note: Changed the plugs yesterday and did a compression test and every cylinder was at 180 psi, and there was only very small traces of oil on the threads of the plugs but no where past that.

^good to hear!

My shifter moves a bit at idle and when driving, but the tranny is fine.
You gotta get under the car and look for the middle cross bar close to the tanny.

Wait, so it revs high for what 30 seconds? 20 secs? you should time it.
The car should only really REV high when you first start it( and A/C off) it should immediately go to about 750 rpms.
If you live in a place where its cold the car might idly high to warm up though, but it should not be 2250 if its trying to warm up.

The compression test was at 180 for what, wet or dry test?

Any engine codes?

I always prefer to do both ( since its easier to do it once, then to have to go back and re-do) but to each his/her own.

I think if you check the codes you might get something there, unless you did that and it yielded nothing.

Sounds like the pressure plate is not setting down on the disk evenly causing it to chatter. I vote pressure plate.

I think I got it, I was trying to look at the 2 front diff mounts when i noticed on the diff houssing a few streaks of fluid that had been cleaned off (i could see kind of the outline of what used to be the streaks but very faint) probly by the previous owner trying to hide the fact the rear subframe bushing is bad. Ive seen other pictures where the fluid hadnt been cleaned and it looks exactly the same.

Took a while but finally got the bushings installed and got some coilovers at the same time and the car has transformed, the shaking is completely gone!!! although now the diff screams like crazy it drives so smooth its amazing how much of a change it made.

Whoa!!! So glad I found this thread dude. I've been having the VERY EXACT symptoms you described. I had a shop a while back tell me it was the rear differential bushings that were going bad but I wanted to get a 2nd opinion so I'm dropping it by a shop on Mon to have a glance. I feel/hear the knocking/shuddering coming from the rear so it would make sense.

Anyway, just thought I'd say thanks for updating your progress! Hopefully I can get this issue fixed soon. It's been a pain in the *** the more I drive it.
