Hello,

I'm hoping that someone out there will be able to help me out with this problem that just occurred with my 350z. It's a 2003 with approximately 193k miles on it.

Anyway, when I turn the key, oil pressure gauge reads at 80-90 psi. When I turn on the car, the oil pressure jumps up to 120 psi. When I start driving (cruising) the oil pressure will jump up, way over 120 psi. I had just got an oil change about a week ago with Mobil 1, 10W-30 full synthetic, which I have been using for years now. Someone please HELP! It would be greatly appreciated.

+1 to the sending unit…it's the sensor that's attached to the oil pan, sorta near the drain plug…


Mine went out and caused similar issues...I can't remember the torque spec but be very careful when torquing that in…if you break it you'll have to pull the engine and replace the lower half of the block. IIRC, the sensor was like $60.

+1 on all of the said above. I just ordered a new sending unit, costs about $65 from CourtesyParts or $75 from your local Nissan dealer.

 

mine was reading that too. I changed the oil sensor and it reads correctly now.

 

Your Z sounds good, what kind of exhaust do you have? Doesn't sound stock..

 

hmm... lets see.... it seems your sending unit sensor has malfunctioned. You will need a new one for around $80 or so. Installation is not difficult but be careful when torquing the sensor, dont break it. The sensor can be found on the oil pan near the drain plug. I hope this helps

+1 on Zatara's question. What is the torque spec for the oil sensor?

 

9-12 ft*lbs…but don't take my word for it…I found it on page LU-14 of the factory service manual for a 2003 car.

 

I've been meaning to replace mine too. It will max out every once in a while then go back to normal.

I'm assuming that changing it out will drain a bit of oil? I'm just wondering if I should just wait until the next oil change so I don't spill oil everywhere trying to replace the sensor.
