i just noticed today that my temperature was close to High and when i turned off my car i can hear bubbling/boiling sound from my overflow tank.
i checked and the overflow tank level is steady at MAX
no oil in my coolant
im trying to figure out if its a bad radiator cap not holding pressure?
bad thermostat not opened?
or a bad headgasket?
no smoke or bad smell from exhaust
i hope its not a headgasket problem..
i barely drive this car and this just started happening.
what are you're guys opinions/advices?

Had same issue a few days ago. It was a bad radiator cap.

well installed a new thermostat and radiator cap with new coolant and still overheating.
my fans turned on after it warmed up and then if you wait awhile the fans kicks in even faster and then it starts to overheat.
weird part is lower bottom hose is still cold.
probably gonna have to do a coolant system pressure test to see if my headgasket blew or not..

 

Check your engine oil for a white fluid and radiator for oil . Easy way to see if the head gasket blew.

well ive tried the method of leaving the radiator cap open and let the bubbles out until the engine warms up and the coolant start gushing out...
what concerns me is that the lower bottom hose is still cold.. did i buy a bad thermostat? i bought it from autozone

 

what im doing right now is cutting the old thermostat out of the housing from my oem old one and letting it fully open and we will see if i still overheat.... if i dont then probably i bought a bad thermostat from the store.. if it still overheast.. im gonna go get the leak down tester, compression tester, and radiator pressure tester.

 

Letting the water bubble out the front doesn't work because the rear end of the system is higher, and that's where air gets trapped. The funnel eliminates this issue (I've heard you can also jack up the front of the car). There is also a bleed screw you need to open, and the heater needs to be on full-hot. The thermostat only opens in hot water, so that may be a problem, too.

 

You can check any thermostat in a pot of hot water on your stove. I always test before installing a new one. You can buy a cheap candy thermometer at the grocery store and read the temp as it opens.

You probably having air in the coolant system. Spill free funnel do wonders on this engines.

 

ye ive tested the oem one and it didnt open. So i did installed the oem one back on but the thermostat was removed from the housing and now im not overheating anymore. So does that mean that the new one i bought was a bad one. Maybe I'll boil it too and see if it opens up..

forgot to add that after the old one installed with no thermostat my fans kicks on and off normally now and im not getting hot air due to the thermostat removed
its summer anyways

 

Most probably just air. Top up the coolant when the engine is cold, like first thing in the morning for example. Then run the car with heater fan at max. Cool down, refill again.

Same thing happened to my car just recently after I installed Koyo and I've been doing the procedure for the past 4 days. It has taken 3-4 liters more since I started and I think most air is already out now.

well autozone reorder me one and this time i bought a thermometer and this new one works around 172 degrees F
i have yet to install it though

 

The autozone tstat that I bought was crap. I ended up getting an oem one and no problems after that.

im fine with the cut thermostat right now.. have not installed the autozone but i tested it working... my daughter is in the hospital for an infection causing her thigh to swell up.. i will install when i get home
