Default 350Z: Auto Trans, Manual shift doesn't work

I just bought a 2003 350Z. The manual shift of the AT doesn't work. It will shift down but not up. I would like to know how this thing works. Is it just a switch closure that tells the car to shift or is it mechanical?

Any help or link to how it works would be greatly appreciated.

Somewhat of a guess but maybe electronic issue in the JATCO TCM.

http://www.atraonline.com/gears/2007...2007_01_12.pdf

Maybe try a reset as described in link.

Good article but says a reset is turning the key off for 10 seconds and then back to the on/run position. Seems like it would reset every time you turn the engine off. Am I missing something?

more then likely not having trouble to get it to load but most of the time if it has a time limit such as turn it off for 10 seconds then back on then it has a limited window where it is keeping track of time and only does it in that window. that is done for the specific reason you say so it wont reset everytime

Not really acting like any scenarios in the article either. Car goes in all 5 gears. The only problem is the manual shift mode and it only won't shift up. Its shifts down fine. I figured someone on here would know how it works.

Simple - but did you check the fluid level?

Do you know how to check and make sure your servos are making good enough contact to activate? If not, I can post some pictures on how to remove the shifter cover and check the servos.

I need some help with this, my manual shifting works but sometimes doesn't catch the shift and I have to do it again and I can't seem to find any info on how troubleshoot the problem

Check for codes and check the fluid level. Manual mode will not work if there are certain faults in the tcm.
