Should I purchase a warranty?
I just bought a used 2006 350z, with 44k miles on it. Automatic.
I am being offered an extended warranty through a 3rd party - for $3400/5 years (or 2900/3 years).
I can't decide if it's worth it or not? From what I saw, a blown up engine or transmission can be a huge cost.
It's through National Car Insurance.
Please let me know guys, would really appreciate your advice on this!
Thanks

Those are all bogus, don't bother.
This is a really good article that broke down some of the inconsistencies of those programs:

Also, that is really low miles for a 2006 and as long as the car is in good condition don't worry about buying an extended warranty. 350z's overall are very reliable cars especially a 2006 without the rev-up motor like you have.
Just enjoy the car and invest that money in Apple stock instead

All warranties are a rip off.
What I learned my first day of business school: don't buy them. Seriously.
The F&I manager will make a ton of money per year just off the commission from this alone.

When I bought my 350Z the seller was a trader and bought a 3 month warranty for my car as he sold vehicles from home and didn't have workshop facilities so thought the best idea was to purchase a warranty for all of the cars he sold. Two/three weeks after I took delivery of my Z I encountered problems with the drivers side window motor, It became intermittent in the way that some days it worked and on other days the switch when operated was totally dead. I tried rebuilding the motor which worked for a couple of weeks and then the problem returned, I took my Z into an auto electric shop who confirmed that the window motor was the problem and liaised with the warranty company who paid for a new motor and for installing it. No more window motor problems. I'd check through the small print though just to see what the said warranty covers as some warranty's are better than others in that some cover more than others. My warranty paid for itself on the first claim as the labour and cost of the motor came to $450 +, and cost me nothing.

I bought the 7-year/120K miles Nissan extended warranty from Vaden Nissan when I bought my used '08 in July of '09. Cost was ~$1200, car now has 50K on it, and the warranty has already half paid for itself (window motors and hatch struts). I don't think I'd buy anything but the Nissan warranty, though, as there seem to be plenty of loopholes in the 3rd-party warranties, which I researched before buying the Nissan plan.
i bought an extended warranty on my z. it covers bumper to bumper. all mechanical parts, gaskets & seals, and most importantly all electronic parts on the car, including sensors. And the warranty is accepted at the deanship i purchased the car from.
2 year 24k miles warranty for 1400$. If u can work them on the price do it.

Don’t buy an extended warranty unless it comes from the manufacturer. If the extended warranty isn’t from Nissan, it’s probably worthless. They might cover a window motor, but anything big and expensive won’t be covered.
I’ve purchased extended warranties from the manufacturer (I had one from General Motors for Saab, and it was wonderful), and I’ve bought extended warranties from 3rd parties (for a Montero from a third party that was worthless).

this may be a good rule of thumb.
the policy i purchased is owned by wells fargo. and the F&I guy, i have known for years. He said it is a good one to use and the honda dealership i bought my used car from accepts them. They pay book rate on jobs and parts. But where many people have issues is when they have a consumable part fail, a clutch for instance. Many people believe that the repair should be covered under a bumper to bumper warranty, but it isn't. What would be covered is clutch spring breaking.
Belts, hoses, fluids lights are all parts which should be replaced at specific intervals, and when one fails, it is usually due to a missed service. Do you really think a rubber hose should last 100,000 miles??? or a serpentine belt??? those belts are under a ton of tension, you should (in theory) be able to spin an engine just by turning an accessory belt. They should last 100k?
Moral of the story do maintenance and if a rod lets go, or a valve drops your warranty should be there to save u some cash.
