Default Front Bumper/Hood Paint Chip Repair

The 2007 Roadster ended up having a lot of paint chips and road rash I did not see when I bought it 2 months ago. Just ended the repair. Here is what I bought for the job:

1) Dr. PaintChip repair kit, 2) 3m Scratch Repair Kit.

If you do this I recommend getting the squeegee kit from Dr. PaintChip also. (I bought a squeegee from O'Reilley Auto Parts for $1.40 including tax in the paint/auto body section).

Steps I used:

1) Used the 3,000 grit sandpaper that comes with the 3m kit to smooth roughness where needed.
2) Dr. PaintChip the chips and road rash. Go over with the provided Sealtac.
3) This is the extra step: buff with the 3m provided compound then the 3m provided scratch remover polishing liquid. This is going to give you about the best you can do absent getting it all repainted.

Any pictures?

& Z's are infamous for paint chips on the front bumper/front half of the hood... Are you going to install a clear bra or something to protect your paint at this point?

Did not take pics before. Will take a few and post tomorrow.

Not going with a clear bra. The surface is not smooth enough, IMO, to get a good seal. Maybe I will get an opinion from an installer one day. If I had the hood and bumper painted I would definitely have a clear bra put on.

Would like to see pics as well, both of my cars could use a chip repair and have been debating doing it myself.

Photos of the products used would also be great

These pics were taken about 6 feet back on the full bumper and about 3 feet back on the hood. Good results from this distance.

These two corner shots are close enough that you can see the many paint imperfections. Many are rock chips that did not remove paint but dented where they hit. If you are standing up 5 or 6 feet away it is not noticeable. Again, perfection can only be achieved if the bumper and hood are taken off and properly fixed and painted at a good body shop.

Perhaps I should have used a clay bar before starting the process in order to pull imperfections out of the paint. Don't know. I have never used a clay bar so I don't know.

I bought the 3m scratch removal system from Amazon. Also purchased 1 extra bottle of the scratch removal polish and the fine rubbing compound liquid. The kit just does not have enough of either.

I went too fast on my repair. Worked too big of sections with Dr. PaintChip. If you do this take your time on smaller sections. Use the squeegee. Sometimes after drying and Sealtacing, you might do it again to add more layer of paint to the chip. Just do not get in a hurry.

If anyone has any other questions about this just post them and I will get around to giving you my 2 cents.
