^ True, or you can unplug the battery for 24 hours and everything will do what it's supposed to when you start it back up again.....if nothing's wrong.

I will try the unplug for 24hrs. I tried the three step relearn but damn it it's hard to get right with the time even with a stopwatch. The SES light is on now. Grrr!

LOL, I tried the stopwatch method, but ended up learning how to count instead. I have to do the ecu reset quite often at work. Try training yourself to count perfect seconds, and remember to wait at least seconds during that time after the 5 wot in 5 seconds or less.

It also worked better for me counting rather then using a stopwatch

I agree that counting (one thousand one, one thousand two...) is best. It's difficult keeping track of this watching the sweep hand on any watch. --Spike

I am going to try it before I give in and goto the dealer to have them do it. From what I am reading they will rape me without lube for what would probably take 10minutes to do.

Was the battery connected when you pulled the throttle off to clean it? You're probably going to need a new one if that's the case because it's now a paper weight. I hate the trolling that's been going on in the maintenance forum over the past couple years, but I have to agree that there's so much bad advice on this thread, it's painful to read. Do a search for throttle body removal and you'll see some serious horror stories from people who didn't follow the procedures laid out in the FSM.

I admit I did not disconnect the negative. BUT I did not remove the throttle body. All I did was remove the intake tube and clean the inside. Didn't disconnect the TPS or anything. Just the intake tube to get to the inside of the TB.

That's a crock right there. I've taken the TB off my Z 3 times, off my Titan once, and off Nissan lift trucks hundreds of times....all with the battery connected. Never had an issue.

This thread is full of bad advice you say? Where's your advice?

I agree. There is more argument here than simply bad advice.

Of course there will be “guessing” and debating about the main issues in this case because it’s complicated with possibly (likely?) synergistic causes.

Additional Comment: "That's a crock right there." is harsh and I suppose even inflammatory. I get it, but you may have earned an adversary.

if it is idling high the butterfly (or whatever you want to call it) inside the throttle body might be lodged open a little by something......

I don't care. I just think it's ridiculous for anyone to think that a TB would be junk by simply unplugging it.....By "anyone", I mean the place where zakmartin read that info.
Nothing personal to you Zak.

PROBLEM SOLVED. Throttle body cleaned, caused Idle to be jacked up. Went to UpRev and got it fixed with the computer the dealer uses ($65). Car running smooth as a baby. I would have never guessed to clean the TB but it makes sense since when the issue was present I didn't have any SES lights. Thanks everyone for the input.

And for the record. Cleaning it without unplugging the negative to battery doesn't ruin your TB. That makes no sense at all.

It's totally worth it. My G had 100k on it and threw the high idle code. It took me a bit to figure it out. My Z has 63k and I installed a spacer and decided to clean my TB as I was there anyways. The Z was way dirtier than the G.

I had mine off about 2 years ago, so maybe it just needs a good looking at....car has no symptoms or issues.
