Default Can you identify this leak for me?

Hey, noticed a few nice drips of black oil under the rear end today. Jacked it up and took a look, to find this leaking. Why does the diff appear to go through the subframe, what exactly is leaking, and what does the repair entail? Link fixed. Thanks

no pic but from the description it sounds like your rear diff bushing is shot. if that is it, you will need to drop the diff, cut out the oem diff bushing and install the new one.. not that hard but if you dont know what you are doing or have never done it before, it will take you a full day

Get a whiteline or SPL bushing as a replacement and DO NOT go to a dealership.

Energy suspension bushings here with no complaints. I'll prob put SPL solid bushings in eventually though.

Wow, just doing some research since I know it's a leaking bushing and not a fluid leak. Is there an easier way than removing the diff or subframe? Seems ridiculous that it's that much work to replace a crappy silicone filled bushing.

nope, you have to drop the diff and partially drop the subframe to replace it.... it really isnt that hard, but it is time consuming

The hardest part is getting the old bushing out.

This video will give you an idea about what is involved in changing the diff bushing. You don't need to pull the subframe. You can make your own tool, as posted in the link above, or just buy the tool/polyurethane bushing repair kit from the dude in the video.

Keep in mind if you get solid bushings you will hear the diff whining really loud above 40-50mph when it's under load.
