Default Purchased a Z, some issues with it.

Well I finally received my car a few days ago and while I love it, I'm having some issues. First thing that I noticed was the gear shifter was rumbling and wasn't smooth shifting, heard that it could be a bad engine mount. Second, one of the belts has gone bad, squeeks like hell on a cold start, any idea where I can buy quality parts? Finally last, the CD's on the stock radio skip like hell if you hit the smallest bump, makes switching the radio more crucial than it should be. Feel free to chime in, thanks guys.

Sounds like the drive belts need to be replaced. I suggest go to the dealer and get OEM belts as they will fit the best. Additionally, they are not too expensive I think both together are around $60. Also the the gear could just be a number of things, does it grind in any gear? I bet you also have a loud throw out bearing meaning when you push the clutch in you will hear a wooshing sound or clatter.

How many miles are on it?

I would just upgrade to a different radio, I never heard of that issue before.

Thanks for the quick reply, nearest dealer is about 50 miles away and I could just have my buddy swap it out but I'm not sure really what belt is causing it. It doesn't necessarily grind in gear all the time, just sometimes. Pushing in the clutch does feel a little odd, like it's not smooth and I was thinking it was possibly just something with the lines. I think I'm going to have the car inspected, any idea roughly how much it would cost to replace the bearing?

Whereabouts are you in Michigan??? I work for the Suburban Collection out of the Troy location (Largest dealership group in MI), and if you would like, I'd happily have the Nissan Techs take a look at your Z and hook you up nicely with any discounts I can!

More than likely, the trans is is just fine as they are a bit noisy/notchy from the factory, but we could look at that as well

+1 for the aftermarket radio- they are crap from the factory and I would recommend upgrading to aftermarket (Bluetooth, USB, etc...)

What year is your Z????

BTW, I am NOT a "salesperson," nor am I a service writer- I know hearing DEALERSHIP scares most away, but I would be more than happy to help. We have a car club here in MI too, Great Lakes Z Club (GLZC), which I am a member of and have helped out some of the guys on our forum too!!!!

Great to hear, the Troy dealership is actually the closest to me, I'm near Flint, in Grand Blanc, so about 40 minutes away. How would we go about scheduling a time to look at the vehicle? I appreciate the response and helpfulness as well. I drive a 2005 35th Anniversary in Silverstone, bone stock except for a Nismo S-Tune exhaust.

Deception we gotta hang out some time! I go to college at Kettering University in Flint. I'll be back the second week of July. There's a FB group for the Wednesday night car meet in Flint here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/274522212665847/

Yeah man, I go to school right next door to Kettering, I'm at UMFlint, once I get these small issues situated, the Z will be my summer daily driver.

Radical! Our school's car club will be putting on numerous free autocrosses this summer, plus there are many more around the state I'll be attending. My name is Ace Barnett on FB, friend request me and I can add you to the group. I'm driving a go kart in my picture.
