Agree- don't do a tuneup, unless it really is time to perform one. And be picky about the parts you use when one is coming due. Read the sticky on the UOAs for the VQ35DE and pick one of the better performing oils. If you're approaching 100K, don't settle for anything else than the original NGK plugs. Many shops will throw in whatever brand they carry and you'll notice the drop in mileage and performance.

^^+1 on being picky about what parts you put on your car.

I got mine last month and it was in very good condition but did need some work. I got an oil change on mine instantly, it appears the dealership didn't change it and the level was very low, the timing belt appears to be good, but some days my brakes squeak, I think that's the next thing I got to change. The day after I bought it though the car bogged down and it had a cel, took it back to the dealer and had it cleared, it and it hasn't happened since (knock on wood) Def. just get the oil changed as you should with most new-used car purchases and drive it until you feel there is something else that should be attended to.

I would change coolant, power steering fluid, trans fluid and oil change. I just had all those changed on my car and I have an 07 with 45k miles on it. Those are all low cost fixes that you could do immediately when you get the car.

If the timing belt on your VQ "appears to be good", you've got a BIGGER problem than you think. All VQ engines use timing chains, which don't need to be changed with normal maintenance.

As for your brakes, if they are the Brembos; monoblock calipers usually squeak with light pedal pressure. If you still want to check the pads, they are easy to get to.

Why do i think the OP should not be driving a 350Z? Timing belt looks good? Sure you even know where a timing belt would be, even IF you had one? And you post does not list mileage or year. And what the hell is a tuneup these days? It is simply changing the spark plugs. There is nothing else to "tune" on a car - at least not for normal maintenance. I always change the oil on any used car I buy just so I kn ow where I started but other than that, depending on mileage, you might have to do nothing. Or you may have to do the entire 60/120k service - but sure as hell, don't pay a dealer to do it!
