Alright guys - need a hand here. My buddy got a 2006 Z a few weeks ago. All was well, the car ran and drove wonderfully. Last week he was washing the car like he normally does, his son was sleeping so he pushed it out of the garage and did his thing. While he was washing it, the alarm went off which he quickly turned off. Later on in the evening he went to start the car and it wouldn't start. After a few nights of him and i trying to figure it out, we towed the car to the dealer. They are ****ing useless. They tried to replace the key but since the car is in immobilization mode they can't, so they replaced the BCM... the car started for 5 min and then died and won't start again. NOW they want to replace the ECU which they are quoting at $2200... Does anyone have any insight on this? These "Nissan Master Techs" seem to be replacing parts without any idea if it is going to help. Thoughts? He's at his witts end.
After posting on a few other pages people have recommended just buying a ECU off of ebay and going that route, and having the dealership pair it... Help.....

My ABS control module shorted out the main bus and my car wouldn't start. turn over or anything. When they gave me the diagnosis, I thought they were full of it. (ABS makes my car not start?)
Well, the tech unplugged the wire harness from the ABS module and promptly started my car....it just purred like a kitten. (With every light on the dashboard on)
Anyway, the connector is large but it's not hard to get to and this possible cause only takes a minute to check. You need to take off the whole plastic "corner" where the brake master cylinder is, not just the little door. There's about 6 of those plastic push-tabs holding it in place.

Thanks for this - i will have him check this tomorrow.
Anyone have any idea if this could be caused by something when he was washing the car? The reason i ask is because when he got the car all was well until he washed it. Not sure if it is a coincidence or not.
EDIT: Was your ABS light not on when this happened to you?

No indication of any problems prior to it not starting and no lights when it was broken. (Until the tech pulled the wire harness off the ABS, then the ABS and every other light came on....but the car ran)

Hmm alright - i will def have him check that then, thank you. Do you know what caused him to even think of that?
When i went to start it, i can tell you the RED theft light stayed on. BUT I cannot remember if it was always on when trying to start the car or not.

Yea - I am thinking it had something to do with washing the car. I don't think it can be a coincidence that he was washing it when **** hit the fan. Now to figure out if that IS the case, what he can do to stop it from happening. He hasn't touched the car since he bought it.
Jut bought the Z last year w/37000 mi. Only had, (should say the wife had) the Z (2005) about 3 weeks, ran great. I washed it and about an hour later had a difficult time starting it, it acted like it was out of gas or the fuel pump was not working. Could not pull itself up the hill from the driveway. After playing around for a couple of hours, I pulled it in the garage.
I was going to take it to the shop at the end of the week. Tried it again three days later, its been running great ever since. I think some water got in the wrong place and it took three days to dry out.

Yea - not to mention the car has been in a garage for 3 weeks now with 70-80* days it would have been more than enough to dry it out. We ordered a new ECM for it, it is the last thing to try. We will see if this is it… i have no clue what else it could possibly be
