Default Loud Click on acceleration, what could it be?

From what I can tell, there's a pronounced CLICK from, I think, the right side, during acceleration. If you let off, then give it significant gas again, you hear the click again.

I think its the same click I hear when I shift into reverse too. Wish I knew what this was.

If you guys need it, I can provide a GoPro video tomorrow.

thanks

Common problem with Zs is the axle click (search it). If it is coming from the rear it could be that. Wouldn't be that loud but noticeable, especially against a wall or tunnel. Requires removing the axle and regreasing it. Fixed mine 15k ago.

Ouch. Got to remove the axle?? How much would a shop charge for this. Is it dangerous?

You don't have to remove the axle, although it is the best way.
You can however, remove the axle nut and gently tap the axle in....it will go about half way. Get in there with some anti-seize on the splines as best you can, then re-torque the axle nut. I seem to recall the nut torque being about 176 ft/lbs.

Yeah I seem to remember that some people greased the splines at the diff, but I think I just greased the outside spline like myfirstz described, in which case it is an easy job.... besides having to get a 32mm (i think) socket. As far as torque goes, a good tightening with a 18"-2" pipe around the ratchet will get it tight enough, close enough to the 170 ft-lbs

I had the same thing happen to my Z, took it to a local shop, he charged about $150 (Can't remember exactly). No more click.

Ok, Id probably have to take it to a shop because I don't have many tools at the moment and I live in an apt complex.

So, its just a matter of greasing the inner and outer splines on the rear axles?

Yes. All you need is a jack and some stands, a socket for the lug nuts, a socket for the axle nut, a hammer, and some good quality high temp grease or anti-seize. Make sure you get enough torque on that axle nut, and like scoluccio mentioned, going over 170 ft/lbs shouldn't hurt a thing.

Yours is a creaking sound when you start out from a dead stop in either forward or reverse......correct?

Well then it's not the axle ticking problem everyone else has, because that's exactly what it sounds like. Especially from a dead stop or when going in reverse...

Mine didn't sound anything like the video posted above, but it was fixed 4 years ago by the method I mentioned earlier.
