I have the same problem due to a previous fender bender.in my situation my crash bar got pushed in a little which makes the bumper to headlight gap.make sure nothing is damaged and it should all line up and yes those tabs do line up with the bumper.

No I don't think so, the bumper should just go on one way and sit flush

That gap is not right and if everything is carefully put back in place it will line back up. Was the light taken out or replaced?

You should try unbolting the light completely so it is no longer attached to the car (do not unplug anything), line the lamp up to the mount, bolt it back on while holding it firmly in place, and then reassembling the bumper and fender liner. Its critical to firmly hold the light in place while bolting it back up because its own weight will make it move downward - looking at the floor. Hold the light in place so that its back corner seats into the corner shaped space in the fender. If I remember correctly the headlight bolts onto the car in 3 places (one on top and 2 on the bottom). Another spot in front of the light has a bolt that screws into a bracket, which attaches to the bumper and fender. It forms a type of joining point so the bottom of the light lines up with the bumper and fender. This bracket is made of metal and has a bent shape.

Maybe this helps, I used this as a guide when removing my lights.

Go to 1:50. The fender-bumper joint is what I'm talking about
Go to 11:05 for reassembly

im pretty sure her car was in an accident prior to her purchase. I will try reseating the headlight, i had unbolted it but did not completely taken out the bolts

i think the bracket is there, it was previously unbolted and after bolting in a new bolt it actually seems to have made the gap worse... so strange
