Default engine noise on idle

Hey everyone... im new here but I have a problem that maybe you guys can help me with. I have a 2005 350z 6 speed manual. When the car is just idling it makes a noise on the engine. I hear it by the driver side tire part of the engine. When the fans turn on and the rpms go slightly up, the noise goes away. I cant really explain what the noise is buy kinda sounds like a rattle as if something was loose inside. Also with the ac on noise isnt there, since rpms are slightly higher that at regular idle. Any ideas what this might be?

It’s likely that you hear the noise on the driver side because that is where you are sitting. The noise could be coming from anywhere.

RE:> “When the fans turn on and the rpms go slightly up, the noise goes away.”
Again, this is perception. The fan ON or an increase in RPM’s makes background noise and interferes with your ability to hear the engine noise you are attempting to track.

RE:> “Also with the ac on noise isnt there, since rpms are slightly higher that at regular idle.”
Same as I previously stated. See above.

I think you are hearing things that are not a problem. Be sure to check oil levels since low levels will produce a ticking noise (maybe what you are describing).

If your oil level is OK, relax and enjoy the car.

Thanks for your response spike 100. Ive actually gotten off the car and when the fan kicks in, the noise goes away. A friend that heard it told me its my timing chain making the noise buy im not too sure. I hear it on the driver side. If i stand outside on the passenger side i hear the noise on the other side.
