Airbag light - repair help
Hi, I have 2005 350z roadster with 18,800 miles. and about 3 years ago the airbag sensor light came on. The dealer first repaired it and said it was a broken or chewed on wire by a mouse. 1 Year later the light came on again and they said it may be a faulty air bag sensor unit needed to be replaced and I waited because I was putting in storage. This year I took back in to have them replace the air bag sensing unit and now they added I needed the airbag Module as well. We went from a mouse chewing the wire to $1900 - any idea what the charge should be? I’m feeling not real confident with the whole deal.

It's a long shot, but check fuse 13 on the fuse block behind the left kick panel, by the driver's feet. Fuse 13 is a 10-amp fuse on the bottom row, second from the left. If it's blown you will get the symptoms you see.

BumbleZ1,
Your dealer should have used the Consult tool to scan the air bag control unit; he should be able to tell you what the fault codes are. If you decide to scan it yourself, or take it to Autozone (for example), you need to use a full function scan tool. Simple scanners that only read the ECU won't tell you anything.

Thank you, I will do that. You hate to think the worst of people but I called the dealer last night right before they closed and said I wanted to schedule the repair. The service rep was not available but the parts department counter person took my information and looked up what I wanted to have done and said he would need to order the parts from Chicago and would have the service rep call me when they were in. I received a call first thing this morning at 9:20 from the service rep and told me the parts were in. Hmmmm!
I live in Columbus Ohio and have my own business and I couldn’t get anything sent from Chicago to my store if my life depended on it that fast. In fact, my business is so time critical you would’ve thought I sold heart valves. Really has my radar triggered.
I definitely will check this out. Thank you again!

Read the SRS section of the service manual. Even the Nissan Consult tool will NOT be able to exactly diagnose the issue so DO NOT believe everything the dealer tells you. This is why their quote keeps changing, they are guessing what is wrong but really have no idea and will charge you every part and every minute until they guess right.
You can use your ignition to put the car into diagnosis mode and lamp flash codes will tell you what is wrong just like their tool and will also give suggestions on how to fix it. Used parts are plentiful on ebay, junkyards, or even reputable sources.
