First off apologize if this is the wrong format. I have never posted on here before. I searched everywhere including manual etc. My issues is that my fuel door wont open.
I want to start off by saying that my actuator inside the car under the steering wheel when pushed to release still works. Right now I have to fill my tank full and have someone stand by the fuel door to pull it open while I hold the button. Im assuming that maybe there should be a spring thats broken that when I push the release in the car it pushes the door open maybe that is stuck / broken / jammed. I have failed to find information on this and im turning to the forums. I also did an intial search on the forums to see if maybe someone else has posted about it but couldnt find anything. Any information or pointing me in the right direction regarding manuals and or what should and shouldnt be inside that fuel door to make fully function would be greatly appreciated.
My Z is a 2003. I would be more than happy to take the fuel door apart and send pictures if needed thanks again yall.
I used to have that problem. I would push that button numerous times. If you have something like a credit card or one of those interior panel tools, you can probably use that to gently push the door open after you've already pushed the release button.
^^^ this. Another option is to gently pull back the upholstery/liner on the inside. Then you can grasp the white plunger with your fingers and pop the door. The actuators run about $85 IIRC so a salvage yard might be an easier option.

I think his actuator is fine. Most likely, the spring is missing.
OP, look at this listing on eBay. In the pictures, you can see a metal spring steel arm that pops the door open. Is yours missing?
The button in the dash I refer to as the "Switch," the device that moves to release the fuel door is generally considered the "solenoid/actuator", I may be wrong...when mine quit working it was the device in the trunk that died. Glad it's sorted.
I just bought a 2008 roadster and first time I tried to put fuel in it I pushed the button and I could hear it working but the door wouldn’t open. I figured out that it was unlatching but barely and every time I touched the door it would re-latch again so I used a credit card to open it without touching the door. I then used Wd-40 on the mechanism and spring in the door hinge and that did not help. I deduced that it just didn’t have enough spring to open cleanly. So after looking at it further there is a rubber bumper on the door that mates up to a black tab inside the opening...there’s actually two of them. I bent the black tab closest to the mechanism very slightly out towards the fuel door. My thinking was that it would load up the rubber bump stop more and it would make the door clear the latch mechanism more when I pushed the button. Totally fixed the problem. Don’t bend the tab too much because it will make the door not be flush with the car when closed.
Hope this helps someone else, I don’t see where anyone else used this fix but i didn’t look to hard.
If youre still reading this and are looking at replacing the whole part assembly try spraying WD40 lithium grease inside the beveled tip. What you do is PUSH the beveled tip inside the cylinder then spray in the very small space between the tip and the cylinder housing. Repeat a few times. I did this now mine is working great. I also have a backup since I tried this after I bought a cheapie replacment on AMAZON.
