Question Stupid Question - Convertible Problem ! =(

Hey all,

I recently picked up a total POS 04 roadster but the top has never worked. I've been rebuilding it as my quarantine project and it's been good fun however i'm at the point where the top is the only thing remaining before i start on the body.

the glass section has never worked, when it's closed and i hit the close button it makes a terrible clicking noise, however when i hit open i can hear the deck lid unlatch and i can manually lift the top glass section. afterwards i can continue to press the open button while it's manually been open to make the deck lid able to rise. after it's fully open i then have to manually close the back section, and the top can continue opening automagically.

would this be the 5th bow motor? i feel like i'm at a disadvantage due to never actually having a working one..

thanks in advance for any assistance !

Welcome and I hope your got your POS ZR for a song, as the top won't be cheap. The mechanism lowers the windows, moves the seats slightly and begins a complex ballet of the rear. You really need to hire a factory trained tech to troubleshoot a top that has never worked for ???. You can ask for advice across a keyboard, but there's no way any of us can give you the hands-on instructions you need. Just my $0.02.

No, I don't and am only saying that a real-time inspection will be needed to determine what components need to be addressed.

Could be the 5th bow... could be something else.

Click here for the roof section of the FSM for some 'light' reading as you dive deeper into the rabbit hole of the roadster's top issues. Good luck!

Hey Mike,

Check out page 44 Roof manual on how to check 5th bow unlock actuator, in short you should check the voltage on unlock signal. Let us know how it goes! Best of luck!
