03' oil light on, volt and oil gauge not working
Ok, I got a nice one for you guys and gals. My oil light popped on and the oil and volt meter gauges have stopped working. The multi gauge works perfectly fine. How strange! For a little while, it has been quirky and sometimes it would decide to work again and sometimes I'd smack the thing and it'll work. The oil light with that is new though. I took it to a local mech, I know it's simple to replace the oil pressure sensor next to the filter but I just don't have the time to anymore. Anyways, it was done for cheap with an oil change and he tested the pressure which was about 90psi cold, warm was WNL. Idle is fine, nothing weird there. No smoke out the exhaust. I see no leak puddles in the driveway, not burning up oil. The car's got about 65k on it. So at least it's reasonable to say that it is mechanically sound. So WTH?
I know people have had issues with the control amp as they call it and or the triple gauges. Some narrowed it to that stupid flimsy ribbon cable which I found a cheap replacement for on ebay. Don't know if the guy's still selling that but asides from it being a little shorter in length, matched up quite well. Just had to cut the little index pins off the plug when disassembled. I took it back out and cleaned the contacts and re-positioned the ribbon cable, it was solid as it was before and contacts still look good. No creases...perfect. So that seems to leave the control amp itself or the 2 of 3 gauges themselves. Anybody have any insight on this?
Searching the forums, it just seems like it's the oil pressure sensor, control and or gauge cluster in general.....I haven't seen a posting about a partial cluster with an oil light? I'd feel better if all 3 gauges were shot to crap but nope. Still, I'm leaning towards the gauges themselves but what are the chances that those 2 would go bad at the same time. Thanks people. This'll be interesting.
