Default Factory Motor Oil

Does anyone know what kind of motor oil (brand) that the Z comes with fresh from the factory?

I'm doing my 2nd oil change (first done by dealer) and would like to stick with non synthetic until 7K miles... I have 2500 right now.

Thanks!

I ran Pennzoil from 2700 to 5200... but I think I hear Castrol is much more recommended (from various Z boards), thus I switched to GTX. I mean, using Penn isn't going to ruin your engine or anything

Default when to switch to syn

there's a lot of discussion on this board of when to switch to synthetic. spoke with my z mechanic who himself owns a z and he recommended synthetic @ 10K miles! mainly for the seals etc. i dunno but 7k miles sounds like a nice number; not really scientific.

The seals are set usually by the first 100 miles or so. On the safe side, 3k is a good number, although right after break-in (1200) is fine too. Lot's of varied opinions on this though, so do what you feel you are comfortable with.

my vote goes to Royal Purple here. all the other oils everyone else mentioned, will do the job. however, im a little harder on my Z than others are and the added protection is great with the stop go traffic and the high heat here in FL.

p.s.(saw a 40 F degree difference when we switched from redline 20w-50 to Royal Purple 20w-50 in our shops two 916 porsches.)
