Shifter Rattle
I will also go on the record stating that I have the exact same rattle. It is most apparent in 2,3, and 4 geares and it drives me insane. I can't believe the number of rattles in this car for it's $30k plus price tag. I am ready to get rid of it and buy a VW R32, great performace, nice fit and finish, but it does not have the good looks of the Z. I hope the dealer can pinpoint this problem and fix it.

Shifter Rattle
Look at the 350Z Adjustable Short Shifter for Nissan. They use the stock Nissan Shifter Socket. It is a white fiberglass impregnated piece of plastic that the shifter lever ball snaps into to give it shifter rotation. The outside diameter of this piece is .020 to .030 thousands of an inch (.5 mm to .75 mm) smaller than the bore in the transmission tail piece it goes into. This is a huge gap. Some of your cars are getting an audible rattle over about 4000 rpm. The 350Z Adjustable Short Shifter for Nissan modifies the stock socket to get rid of this problem.

So nobody has found a solution to fix this problem. Have anyone tried removing the shifter? I have this annoying rattle and it just got worse recently. Very annoying. Anybody got a quick fix?

mine at 36k miles with b&m short shifter .. vibration and you can hear the rattle sound like crazy from 2.5K RPM and up, the sound even londer than the muffer. so embarrassing. I was teaching my friend to drive stick shift, and she asked me when is the right time to change gear ? whenever you hear the rattle from the stick, i said.
