Question Shifter Rattle - YOU rate it.

Closing in on 3K miles. The shifter not only rattles, it builds up enough vibration to saw through the dash should it come loose. What's YOUR experience.

Rate it.

How about no rattle? Of course I am only at 125 miles and haven't gone above 4500rpm.

Still no rattle though.

@ 1379 miles and I have serious rattling when it goes above 4000RPM.... I just keep my hand off the thing till I have to shift. Also, there's TOO much shifter feel. I wish they would just numb it up a bit and remove the rattling..

You can feel the shifter vibrate if you hold it (as you should if it's a good solid connection), but you shouldn't hear it at all. If you hear a rattle/vibration/ringing noise, perhaps it's not the shifter at all but the mirror in the passenger sun visor. Open the lid and see if it goes away. I can't see how the shifter would make a sound.

There is no choice for me on the shifter rattle. I have no rattle @ 760 miles so far. Frankly, the only thing that drives me nuts is the damned tire pressure monitor-it is almost impossible for me to get an equal # of psi and then the thing fluctuates too readily- as much as 3# at times. Sorry, I got off track a little.

If by rattle, you mean vibration, I do feel a LITTLE if I hold my hand on it but again, I haven't been over 4k RPM's yet. I don't HEAR anything at all.

almost no rattle below 4000, above a fair amount. it dosen't bother me at all. it is a good shifter and I'd rather have vibration vs. no feel at all.

I've got a RATTLE in the shifter and want to see if anyone else does. Not merely a vibration, but a LOUD, OBNOXIOUS rattle that eminates from the shifter/shift gate/boot when the thing starts to vibrate.

I don't hold on to the goddamned shifter when driving, so a vibration wouldn't bother me. It's a noise, people. A RATTLE.

No rattle at all. No undue vibration. Have had it up to about 5K rpm...almost done break-in, will be redlining soon.

Take it to your dealer, a vibration is just a vibration, but a rattle deserves attention from your Z store. Make them fill out a work order so you have proof you brought the car in for an adjustment, even if they try blow you off by saying, they all do that(vibration). A rattle could be a linkage loosening up, a faulty gearbox, etc.

Like Jason (Abyss), I also purchased from Bankston Nissan of Lewisville. Replicating the problem would require that their tech(s) drive rather aggressively, something I'm not interested in them doing at this point. I'll probably have to take a day off and spend it at the dealership showing them the problem and test driving it repeatedly until we find a solution.

I have no rattle in my shifter, but my door panels have a little rattle when I have my music on. I also have a minor noise in my rear hatch that I notice when I back out of my driveway... that's it though... nothing serious

No rattle at all @ 1200 miles. Of course, there is some small vibrations at different speeds and gears, but I have never heard an audible rattle.

I expect some vibration due to the "connectedness" of the shifter. Audible rattle is not good and should be fixed, but I have yet to hear anything.

4) Rattle? What Rattle?

2800 miles on odo. Run at Texas Motor Speedway one week after delivery on 8/31. Almost daily excursion to 6K+ rpm.

Vibrations? yes
Rattle? none!

Shifter got vibe, no rattle. After 15 years of cable shifter (mid-engine, rear transaxle), the Z shifter is a real treat, direct, positive and connected. A bit of vibe never hurt anybody.

OK, just so I'm clear... No one else "hears" the shifter vibrating? In all gears at 5K and above, my shifter is vigorously shaking and making a fairly LOUD rattling sound. A sound that your passenger can clearly hear and says, "WTF IS THAT?!?"

My Z should be in next week. I'm one of these OCD people that can be driven crazy by excessive vibration or rattle. If anyone comes up with fixes to these things, please post them so that I can learn and fix my own, if it rattles or vibrates excessively.
