Default Boy, I sure would like to put gas in my car...

Well, at 331 miles on the car since we bought it on Saturday, I stopped in an Exxon station about 20 minutes ago to fill it up.

The sequence of event's went something like this:

Me: "Squeeze"

Pump nozzle: "squirt; click"

Me: "Squeeze"

Pump nozzle: "squirt; click"

Me: "what the hell..."

Me again: "Squeeze"

Pump nozzle: "squirt; click"

After about 3 minutes of this relentless "squeeze, click" madness, I had managed to get 1.85 gallons of fuel out of the nozzle and maybe two thirds of that actually into the tank!

I am pissed. It is bitter cold here and I have better things to do other than fighting with a gas pump.

Everytime I'd squeeze the handle, it would over-flow and rund down the side of the rear fender. I tried another gas station down the road and the same thing happened. I cannot get GAS in my GAS tank.
I'm not asking for much here, people.

WTF?
Any ideas? Am I just going to run out of fuel and not be able to refill? Is there any logical reason why my filler neck/tank would refuse the pump neck?
Does my car feel raped or something?

Your imput regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated, gentlemen.

I feel your pain. I bought my car used with 14000mi, and when I first filled up my tank, it done the same exact thing! It took me a good 5 minutes to fill up my tank. Strange but true, I haven't had that problem since.

Sure it wasn't a problem with the gas pump? That's not an uncommon malfunction...

If not, try what another member suggested the other day in a similar thread. Turn the pump upside down when filling the car. It was stated that this disables the vapor lock mechanism which is responsible for the pump shutting off all the time.

ive had the same problem many times. usually when its down in the e for a while. just dont press the handle on the gas all the way only pump at half pressure. it will probably only let you fill half tank, but then finish filling it the next day and all should be well

Common pump problem when filling side intake saddle tanks. I think its caused by vacume in the large tank underground. Use another pump or station. You'll get it about 1 in 75 fillups.

I have the same problem...turn the handle upside down for a couple of gallons, then you can flip it back over.
