Default Rear Hatch

Hi,
just wondering what the problem this fix is for actually is. When I bought the z in 2003 it has always taken 2 pops to open. I was told that it was operating correctly. Is that so or is the problem thsifix takes care of? Thanks

the dealer is BSing you if they tell you that's normal. This is the fix for that problem. After I did it I no longer have to pop the hatch more than once to open it.

Thanks. I figured as much. I got that bs when I first bought it. Never attepted to fix it since "it was normal". Did not ask about it. Just lived with it.

Default How do you get the thing apart?

I got step "1" with no problem. Now that I'm holding the spring gizmo, how do I get it apart?

Everyone seemed to be able to do it, but I sure can't. Also the pictures don't show up.

Hey Alberto, better start toughening up those nails! I used to bite my fingernails, but when I was in a coma for two weeks (near-fatal bicycle crash in 1972) I "woke up" with fingernails! And the little buggers were so useful I quit biting 'em!

Glad you got it to work!

I'll snap some of mine later. I super-turbo-charged the fix and added THREE pennies. Works great now.

Thanks for the tip Skar 718! The half opening hatch has been pissing me off for several months. 5 minutes after taking your advice it works like new.

Wow, thanks for the easy fix! I just went outside to do it and it only took me 2 minutes. The rear hatch has been killing me for so long, and now it probably pops higher than the first day I got the car!

Default OK, here are some pictures with a brief description

OK, this is about as easy a fix as you'll ever find. Took me at least 2 minutes and cost a whopping $0.06 (I supersized to 3 pennies on each side).

1) Open the rear hatch
2) Locate the bump stops/openers on each side of the hatch (one on each side pictures in the photo below).

3) Grab ahold of the top and twist it. It doesn't unscrew as you need to align the top of it with the hole in the hatch.

4) You should now have the piece in your hand.

5) Take the correguated rubber housing and move it over the lip of the top of the bump/spring. I've done 1/2 of it in this picture to show you what it should look like.

6) Drop 2 or 3 pennies in the bottom, and re-assemble.

Hope that helps you all out there. If you have any questions, PM me and I'll be happy to answer them.
