does it improve performance if you don't go cheap, and use 3 dimes on each side

and here I thought it was some stupid security thing that you had to pop it twice. Luckily I've only put up w/ this for a couple weeks (just got the car). I'll be doing this fix. Thanks!

For those wanting more than the 2 penny pressure but less than the 3 penny pressure here's how many coins to drop in.... (yeah....I've got calipers at my desk and I'm bored. LOL)

2 pennies - 2.92mm
3 pennies - 4.46mm
2 nickels - 3.80mm
1 penny & 1 nickel - 3.41mm

my 2 pennies each side trick doesn't work anymore. so I tried 3 pennies, still need to double click remote to lift the hatch.. need to find another solution.

Does the dealer still fix TSB if the car is out of warranty?

Just keep putting in more pennies. I had to use 4 each side to get mine up.

You can damage the hatch with so many pennies you will possilby dent the hatch. If you read the thread someone did do damage to it but it's not my car.

I made the mistake of putting too many pennies in. 5 on each side, and I was greeted with a nice little ding on each side of the hatch.

NismoV2 spoiler is very heavy. Got tired of listening to the hatch noise while going down the road, having to hit the pop button 2-3 times and having the hatch hit me in the head. Ordered the heavyduty hatch struts which only fixed the hitting me in the head part. 2 pennies, didnt touch it, 3...no, 4...no 5....no. It took 6 freaking pennies on both sides to get it to pop open. Of course there is a little dent in the hatch now and unfortunately now I have to hit the pop button twice again. Need stronger springs from somewhere. I wonder if the furniture end covers some have used would work better. ANy ideas for those with spoilers??

doctorshumes, did you try to remove the 4-5lbs counter weight inside your hatch door. it should be easiler for you to open your hatch after.

I have been trying to find an affordable solution to this pop lid problem for about a year. I can not believe it only took 4 cents to fix the problem. DOES ANYONE HAVE THE THREAD ON HOW TO TAKE THE WEIGHTS OFF THE DECK..for when i install my Nismo Spoiler....

This is the thread that keeps on giving.. Awesome...

Just had a nismo V1 JDM spoiler installed on my wife's car and had the dreaded 2-click, 2-handed release. $.20 later and no problems

I went with the 4-nickel finish for that ballin' action.

I am not discounting the OP at all, this is very good advice (I used it 4 penny trick for 2 years) but if your hatch ALWAYS takes 2 pushes of the button to open (or if you have to lift immediately after pressing the button) then you need to just go ahead and replace the stock lifts.

This is even more valid for those of you with any type of spoiler.

As soon as I replaced my lifts, the hatch popped up several inches.

Once again, I am not taking anything away from the OP, just wanted to let people know that in most cases, its not the spring that is the issue, its the lifts.
