Default Baytown Drag Strip Tonight

I'm going out to the 1/4 mile strip in Baytown tonight with some buddies of mine. It will be my first time racing, so I'm sure I will not do so well. If any of you are interested PM me and maybe we can meet up down there.

I'm at the track right now and doing terribly I ran 14.688 the first run and 14.668 the second run. I'm dumping the clutch and not getting off the line very well. I'm going to take one more run and see how it goes then chill for a while. Maybe run again later if it doesn't get too crowded.

I just talked to another z down here and he asked me if my traction control is messing me up and I just realized I had never turned it off. Almost up for me 3rd run.

Yeah, not turning off VDC kills your times. So, how'd you do with it off? Any improvement? Be sure to post timeslips.

D@mn, I wish I had read this. I would have come down to Houston tonight. Post up your times. I ran a 13.8@100.3 before headers/spacer there.

With the TC off I didn't even finish. I couldn't get the tires to hook up, they are brand new 285's in the back so I didn't think I would have that problem. Anyway, my car hit rev limiter and shook my ghetto intake rig loose and killed the motor. Needless to say I was extremely embarrassed but there was nothing I could do but wait and get towed off. I really need to practice launching because right now I suck.

If you're going out there tonight, I don't think you can run because they are doing the Pro Mod Super Bowl races, but I could be wrong. If you want to run, you might want to call down there before you drive all the way. But if you're wanting to just go watch the races, disregard my comment. Have fun if you do go.

Feather the clutch, don't dump it! My best 60' time I launched at only 2500 rpms! You should be able to pull off 2.0 60' times all day long.

Remember, tires make a huge difference. I'm not just talking about the size, neither. I have the sh1tty Nitto 555 NT Extreme ZR and I can't catch traction. The best I could muster with them was a 2.0. My Pirelli P-Zero's could do 2.1 w/o me even trying.

I pulled a 1.9 on the crappy stock tires. Didn't even take any pressure out. But I agree, tires make a HUGE difference.

You also have to remember, some tracks are faster than others. The one we have closest to DFW (TX Motorplex) isn't one of those fast tracks. We also have a relatively high altitude, along with mediocre track prep. Why do you think the Zs in the Eastern states have such good times? You really think the drivers are that much better than the people here? I don't think so. I'd like to see some of those guys come here and get the same times.

I slide everywhere on the track in first and second on stock tires. I can't get to the 13's because of this! The stock tires just won't grip. My 60' times are lagging hard at 2.2 because even at half peddle at the start, I still skid too much.
