Default Another Street Racing Story

I haven't visited this forum for a while, but I know everyone likes to hear about other people's stupidity so here's another story from another idiot. Out late the other night, came up to a light where there was a Mustang 5.0 and Cobalt SS, pulled up in the lane next to Colbalt SS and reved the motor just to mess with them. Light changed, I hit it and so did the Colbalt SS. I never saw or heard the Mustang after that. I had always read that the Colbalt SS's were faster than the Z but I had this guy buy a car lenght and I was lucky if not I would have hit him. We were going into a very slight turn, I was somewhere between 80 and 90 mphs, the road must have been a little moist or something, I crossed 2 lanes sideways....twice, over and back again, tried to recover and oversteered. After all the tire screaming and smoke from the burning rubber, I lightly kissed a curb, shattered the Mastergrade Carbon Fiber front lip, the wheel well was knocked out, put a gash in the tire, and screwed up the rim. I was lucky, it could have been much worse. In the end, it cost me for the alignment, I'll have to get a new tire and I tomorrow I have to put the wheel well back in and rebolt the plastic cover under the car. No bragging here guys, just another story on why people should think twice about street racing. It's not about the damage, it's more so not worth the stress. I thought I messed up the suspension or worse, bent the frame. The steering wheel was turned 1/4 of the way to one side when I was going straight. Worst of all I lost that Carbon Fiber MasterGrade front lip! Damn, I loved that thing but you gotta pay to play. Think twice guys.....I wish I would have. Flame me if you want.....I most likely won't see it....and really don't care, I've heard it all from people I know and was face to face with when I told them what happend. If nothing else, hopefully someone that reads this will not accept the opportunity to race the next time they are at a light and feeling ballsy.

Yeah, Yeah Yeah, there are always those candy ***ed people crying about innocent people getting hurt and all that crap, this happend at 2:30 am on Thursday morning so save that whiney crap for someone else. I scewed up, I know it, I stressed myself out about it and in the end I paid for it and learned my lesson. Save the "you could have killed/ hurt somebody" crap for someone that was street racing at a time when other people are on the road or walking the sidewalks. My misadventure happend in the middle of nowhere not in a city or town and I've already heard the "you could have" crap from people I know, with them it was embarasing to have to own up to. If I don't know you, I could care less about your opinion, I did this post with the hopes that I could save someone out there from making the same bad decision I did. If one person pulls up to a light and thinks about racing the person next to them and then my story pop in their head and change their mind, it was worth me taking the time to post the story.

If you own a Z and never raced it or pushed the limits of the car, trade you car in, you don't deserve it. The car was built for speed. The slogan on the banners reads, "Places to go and Porsches to Pass". Not, "buy this car and drive the speed limit".....that's what Hybrids are for. 2 types of peole on this board **** me off, those who play the "I'm a perfect driver all the time" card and those that pay someone else to mod their car. You have a slick car, make it your own and do something to it yourself.

Damn, sorry to hear about your misadventure. Had it been raining or just morning dew on the roads making it moist? Too bad you couldn't have just turned it into a gorgeous drift right in front of the FWD cobalt Oh well, like you said gotta pay to play!!!

and what's with the "***ed" crap, my post is PG-13 at worst, Candy A z z e d, it what I wrote, if that's to much for this site, someone needs a reality check and maybe a couple of hours of listening to what is said on public TV or just about any radio station in the US..... Warn me, ban me, whatever makes you feel like you are in "control", I don't play by those rules. It's not like I dropped the F bomb.

I'm in Maryland and it's really humid at night, I guess that was all it took. No rain, no wet roads.
I'm just glad to see the first person to post understands where I'm coming from. I keep my drifting adventures to the back roads and late at night. Trust me when I tell you, everthing in my head at that time was screaming "GET OFF OF THE BRAKE YOU IDIOT, YOUR'E GOING TO WRECK. LIFT YOUR FOOT AND HIT THE GAS YOU SISSY",..... BANG...to late my foot just never lifted off of the break, that's why I ended up kissing the curb. TCS was on....yeah, I know, punk move but, I wasn't out to race anybody......I was just out to get a late night Slurpee and never intended on racing.

Damn Murph, sorry to hear about your misfortune but I'm glad to know that you're alright and no one was hurt. You're doing the right thing by trying to persuade others not to make the same mistake you did.

Dang Murph, what brought this on? The word you typed is in the swear-word filter, for obvious reasons. No 'control' intended. Calm down.

Sorry to read the misfortune, but you came out ok. Ive also had a misfortune like you in the Z-over 3 years ago, I learned my lesson. Sometimes it takes some of us a $hitty situation to actually sit back, think about things and change.

**** happens! I am sorry to hear about the incident! Ive had several Unfortunate things happen that make me question why I even drive performance cars, but the track isnt free from this kind of danger! You just have a better margin for error. 2 weeks ago I saw an 11sec civic hit an oil slick on the 1/4 mile and hit the wall at about 120 and tear his clean ride to pieces! Just makes you think! Cars are dangerous but you just have to love them and get back up on the horse!

+1 There are quite a few of us that have had misfortunes, such as those, in our Z's. Good to hear you're ok and you didn't do any serious damage.

It's funny, I haven't been around this site for months, personal crap, you know how it is. I have to say, I expected all the "you should'nt be street racing you could have killed someone" people to be flaming me but the people that have posted so far, have all had better things to say and understand the real message I was trying to get across. Thanks for the "well wishes" comments guys!

anybody got a slick front lip laying around they can let go cheap?.....my car looks so naked without it! and I have a ton of scratches I need to get covered up!!!

here's a pic of the old from lip......now in pieces on the side of the road just outside of Belair.

its because most of us understand that shiet happens. sometimes you speed when you shouldn't...and race when you know you shouldn't. and accidents happen. atleast you know that it was wrong. but then again shiet happens.

friday night...leaving the mall i was driving like a maniac... why? i dunno...felt like it. oh well...no one on the road.... except for this one cop... luckily i was following the law of the roads by then haha

something very similar to that, happened to me, on Great Seneca Highway. Like you, it was very late at night, and lucky noone else was on the road.

The only good thing about it..? Noone was around to see me go backwards like an amateur, haha.

But yeah, at least you're alive to tell about it! Makes you think twice now, huh? I do.
