Default district of columbia park police

its like rinse and repeat. tonight on the way home from work (around 11:45pm) i passed an undercover (and by undercover i mean not even in a crown vic) going about 3x the speed limit on GW parkway. i did the steps i told yall to practice before, and what got me out of a reckless driving ticket, and possible jail time was two simple questions and answers:

the FEDERAL officer asked : Cardinals or Mets?

I answered Mets.

the FEDERAL officer asked : Democrats or Republicans?

I said "I work for Democrats"

He said "have a nice night and enjoy law school"

how bout dat? he also commented on how sweeeeeeet the skyline is and asked if i had a turbo - and i said no :-(

I saw an officer on the streets today, one of us... well.. in the same family, a Nissan Sentra SE-R with cop lights and all, not even undercover, it was an actual police vehicle.

wtf man.....how are you able to get out of these situations. I got my first speeding ticket not too long ago and I still didn't get a break. 7 years of good driving record.

What the hell do you say...there has to be a catch. Do you tell them you are stuying law before they start telling you what rules you broke? man..

i told you all the way to do it. very simple. hands outside the vehicle, license and reg ready when they get there, engine off, interior lights on, appear as confident and transparent as possible. and dont be nervous. he struck up a convo with me, and i guess when i told him i am in law school it helps because they know im going to fight the ticket - they know its "practice" for someone like me.

Angry He MUST be White!!!!

Since you opened the can...

I hate to say it fellas but it's the discretion of the police officer...

If the officer is white and you're black you don't have a chance.
If the officer is black and you're white you might have a chance.

If the the race is the same it's a toss up.

I just got my first speeding ticket in DC in April...went to court on Monday. I prolonged the inevitable. 85 in a 25 under the K street tunnel coming from Georgetown one night...after 2 hours in jail...$1000 retainer to lawyer...two days off work...and witnessing 95% of the "ticketed criminals" in traffic court being black...it was just crystal clear. It's the good ole US of A. Man I'm not racist but man after what I went through and only having one other speeding ticket in my whole life in 1997 AND the black cops at the station asking me, "Did you resist? Were you drinking? This is just a speeding ticket?!?!" So yeah they were like he could have just given you a fine..but nooo...good ole boy Officer B. Fetting locked my Black *** up.

So whatever man ...it is what it EFFING IS!!!

You can be in denial all you want but you don't want to be black...I'll tell you that.

I agree with you Smitty, but... 85 in a 25??? Yes it is fun to jump on the gas in that tunnel and hear your exhaust roar, but on the other end of that tunnel you are going up hill and it is blind to the pedestrians (mostly gw students) and crossing cars.

You're right, one of my best friends is black and he gets crap all the time for rolling around in a hooked up car and getting pulled over... never would hurt a soul but he's a big dude so they immediately put the cuffs on em. Kinda jacked up how they ask you if you "resisted" as if they suspected you to be some kind of street thug from the start.

Cops never give me any crap regardless of their race, you just gotta have your nerd glasses handy!

Its possible race may play a factor, but this is WMA. So many ethnicities around here...it would be hard to come across some racially biased situations. Would depend on where you are located and what exactly you were doing when it comes right down to it.

racism is everywhere. you were let go because you are a white law student. everytime i get pulled over I'm super nice to the officer and always got a ticket. except for the one time i got pulled over by a chick...and she just yelled at me and proceeded to imply that i was driving my parents car... until i corrected her of course.

85 in a 25 is a little fast on K street. I know what you mean though. I'm Puerto Rican and I get fkd with and asked by the cops all the time "sir is that your vehicle". I dont really like to many cops around this way.

i cant believe they took you in for speeding on the k street tunnel - u know how many times i've goosed it up to like 90 in that thing and never thought twice. ****!!!!!!! but in florida i wouldnt be so lucky - most of the cops where i come from simply do not tolerate speeders because florida speed limits are already very high (70 on the interstate, 65 most other places).

First off I AM BLACK so I understand where you are coming from but I have to say that how you present yourself is the deciding factor. I am 6'4 220lbs so I am no small fry. I have learned that when you deal with law enforcement officers you must be respectful (not in a condescending way). Be calm and cooperative. You want to put the officer(s) at ease. You want them to feel that you ARE NOT a threat to them. I have been pulled over a fsw times and in some cases I was dead wrong. I normally follow the protocol of turning off the vehicle, placing the keys in a visible location and putting my hands over the steering wheel in a manner that indicates I do not intend to run. I DO NOT make sudden movements; if I am asked for identification I ask permission to retrieve it. If I must move around to get it I tell the officer in advance what I need to do to comply and again ask permission. I will then attemp to engage the officer in a civil conversation relating to the event at hand, and try to convince them of my point of view. I do not attemp to discredit what they are saying or argue with them, but present a coherent explanation of what occured and why. Since obtaining a Trooper & Sheriff ID card I give them to the officer along with my license, and explain I do not expect preferential treatment but am merly showing them that I am a responsible citizern and not an a$$hole busting their ball$. I let them do their job and maintain control over the situation. This will put them at ease and give the opportunity to engage them. It has worked for me every time except one occassion. You have the best chance with local police, troopers usually ticket you once they stop you. Just my 2c

I think it had more to do with doing 85 in a 25 than your race. Put that race card back in your wallet.

^I agree with 85 in a 25................but since i do live in Hampton Roads area of VA, i have to say i have not met or heard of anyone NOT getting a ticket once pulled over. Its rediculous in this area and anyone will you that. This is without throwing the race card in there, i know since im hispanic. However is from this area or loves this area, i personally think Virginia is garbage. **** this Common Wealth and their motha****ing quotas!!
