injen vs aem cai
which is better?
i dont mind spending 260 for a new cai, found both around the same price..
but just saw a post for a guy selling a used injen cai for 150 obo.. used for a few months, less than 1k miles on it... worth it?
or if u guys think cai arent really worth it at all, please do suggest something else in the price range.. im going to be getting motordyne spacers (12-14hp increase) for 280 later as well, but other than that, im not sure what else to get for under 300

what about the jwt popcharger mentioned above? i looked it up and states ~6rhp increase... would i need the tube or just the heatshield & filter? thatd only run me 115, so id be happy with that for sure if its more worth it than the cai

I went with the K&N 57-6013, http://www.knfilters.com/news/news.aspx?ID=378 ,for two reasons. 1. Name 2. It’s made from plastic and not metal so it doesn't heat up. One more reason, not that many people on this site seem to think much of it and a lot do not have. So I wanted to be different. I have been happy with it. I did notice a little difference. Noise wise, it doesn't really make anything louder. You can hear throttle body a little better though.

It's personal preference. There isn't much documentation on the actual power gain differences between the two types and Im sure it's minimal at most. The overall gains of ALL of them are minimal. Personally, I have the AEM (w/bypass valve) and will be getting rid of it shortly (for FI). I wasn't aware of the JWT when I got my AEM back in 2003 and have thought about going JWT instead just to see what it's like. JWT pop charger is a good piece and a forum favorite from what it seems, especially for the price.

I said it once, I'll say it again, I have dyno and track tested an AEM vs Pop-charger back like 3 years ago and found the CAI to suck nothing but serious a$$. See my reply to you in the thread above for more info. Ive had an AEM, and a PC, the AEM is garbage, and dont get me started on that silly bypass valve they would lead newbs to believe can trap anything let alone water

OP-go with a short ram of your choice, CAI's dont work well with our cars, switching from my AEM to PC yielded 10whp with no tuning, same dyno, correction, etc, and its easier to keep clean, and to service. And you dont have to run a gay bypass valve that doesnt do $hit anyway but block the airflow...

JWT popchargers are good bang for your buck. Like Driven said all intake gains are going to be minimal, why spend twice as much on one if you don't have too? Other then a spacer and popcharger I'd highly recommend swapping out your cats for test pipes. A set of used test pipes can be had for as little as $100, and the three mods should put you into M3 territory.
