Default Looking to be a 350Z...

Sup guys. I met some of you at the Masin Dixon track rental last year. I have the yellow RX7. Anyhow, Im looking for a used 350Z convertable. Anything I should or shouldn't buy? Bad or good years? lm going to have Ray @ PFSupercars build the motor and install his new twin turbo kit. Should be fun. (BTW, Im keeping my 7) THanks in advance.
Ernie

don't buy one pre 2004.5 (or 2005 to be safe)

some 2006 have oil consumption issues ( do a search in the forum)

If you get an automatic people will throw poo at you.

Stay away from the 2006 MT Z's, although most say that not all are affected there seems to be far to many like mine out there that consume way to much oil.

No need to be concerned with motor reliability - you are rebuilding the motor. If you are going to run 400, 500 or 600 HP on the OEM transmission that is a concern. See above.

Thanks guys. Looks like an '05 6spd. will fit the bill. As for oil consumption, the motor will be torn down shortly after purchase by Ray @ PFS for a "built motor" so it can handle 600+hp on the street!

whatever you do dont get an 07. The HR's dont have any twin turbo kits on the market yet and since your building the engine you wouldn't even really benefit from the upgraded engine.

Edit: Dont tell Mark Steinburg that your getting one. He's gonna give you ****.

DAMN!!! I haven't heard PFS since my FDs days. I though they went under after they got sued because they pretty much stole some ones engine and replaced it with a blown engine.

True, but if I were in his position, I wouldn't get the HR and I have an HR. I know what it can do NA, but nobody has a clue how its going to perform and hold up to FI. Those Pre 07s are tried and true when built and done right. Also that greddy TT kit has been delayed so many times now we will be lucky to see it by May, lol.

Why do people keep bitching about 03s having tranny problems? I can't figure out why.

My 03 tranny started to show signs of problems around 18K miles, I took it to the dealership told the tech what was up he went for a ride with me and after the first shift he said I'll order you a new tranny and call you when its in, 3 days later I got a phone call, the day after I dropped the car off and picked it back up later that day. Been fine since.

with that being said, most people with 03s have already had the tranny replaced with a new one.

Ray purchased PFS from Peter about 4 years ago. Only thing thats the same is the name, not that I had anything against Peter either.

Anyhow, Im not going with a kit as Ray is making his own kit with larger turbos than currently offered, but still with good response. Im trying to keep the purchase of the car under the $25k mark so I have room to play.

I was wondering how long before Ray jump in. Good for him. My second FD had every bolt on product they offered about 6 years ago. I was pretty nice.

Why not do a slightly caressed '07 for the best deal you can find and have PFS prototype a kit for it... since thier going custom, go all the way. The kit would sell like crazy for PFS if they develop and release it soon enough.

Hey what's up, I hope you're bringing the 7 back to Mason Dixon. We're renting out the track again on April 11th.

I would look for an 2005. It seems to be the happy medium of least amount of defects. Before you buy it inspect the top and make there's no peeling in the corners. Also operate the top (open and close) several times and make sure everything it operating without any odd noises, rubbing, or resistance.

As said before the 06's are known to have oil consumption problems. An 07+ would be best but as far as I know there's not many options for aftermarket parts (all internals are different from the 03-05, and 06).
