No offense, but did you read the article? It specifically mentions some officers giving 'rude hand gestures' to the camera when it is taking the pic... I mean honestly, if they were doing something for work, this is childish. If they are blatantly doing this because they know they are getting away with it, that is misuse of power.

Maybe I am missing something, but this just sounds like the FOP being petty and the associated officers being childish.

 

It all comes down to money, the officer shouldn't pay the fine because its one of the perks of the job, so I work in Magnolia inside of Best Buy and their is a $10,000 dollar TV sometimes the discount can be up to 50% off sometimes, its a perk of the job, is it fair to others no not at all....... but isn't that really the american way.

 

I'm all for perks and what not. But no company/gov't unless for superduper special purpose should give you the perk of being above the law. The article made it a point to show that those officer with legitimate reason for speeding were excused...what's next.. we discuss the perk of them carrying a state issued gun and how as long as they're using state issued bullets..they can fire them at will. I respect police for their tough job..but please, they get away with enough perks as is..this one is just lame

Only the officers with legitimate reasons should be exempt from the fines... anything else is abuse of power. Period.

Speeding is a perk? wtf?

Like NX2KDET said, if there is a $10,000 TV, and by working there you get a 50% discount, that is a great perk.
But stealing the damn TV because you close the store is not a perk, is above the law.


Being a police officer can get you things like free food and stuff (happened all the time at the restaurant I used to work, free food for area cops).
But driving at whatever speed they feel like it is above the law.



Not to mention that it is dangerous for people on the street. That speed limit is there for something and for everybody.

yea i dont understand how anyone is defending this. speeding is against the law because its dangerous. why should police be able to do something dangerous when they are suppose to be the ones enforcing the law?

 

Some people see things differently.

 

Here in NM the cops have to have the sirens on and be on official business, the courts checks the radio traffic at the incident times, or the police have to pay the fines also. It has to say the least cut down on yellow light runners, including the police officers. They can fight the charges if they file paperwork with the captain, just so these folks know who are habitual offenders, they can be administratively be punished for repeat offenders.
