Default uh oh! oil consumption

i've been doing some research but had a hard time putting all the pieces together. maybe i wasn't looking hard enough.

long story short! my car is burning oil! bad!!

had my oil changed today and 1 qt came out with 2200 miles driven! and these miles not being driven hard

now the question is? am i still able to take it to nissan? it's a 2004.5 with 70000(just hit it) :-)

I have an extended warranty till 78000. But things are not looking good. I do have all bolt on mods except y-pipe and test pipes. Plenum Spacer too.

Which dealership should i take my car too if i am eligible and what mods should i take off for safety measures. I'm moving to alabama in a month so i don't know how this is going to work.

sorry for asking, but i like up to date answers! thank you all!

are you saying that when you changed your oil only 1 qt drained out or that you burned up 1 qt?

If it was only 1qt left i can't believe your car still runs.

if u rev the engine three times and say, "there's no place like home," it stops consuming oil and you get infinite gas

i have the same problem...its a problem with the rings not seating correctly during break in..i took it to nissan and they knew exactly what i was talking about when i got there...

they have to run an oil consumption test on it...YOU have to pay for an oil change BY THEM then they have you come back every 1000 miles and they check to see how much oil you have gone through...if you have gone through an amount that nissan says it too much then you get a BRAND NEW CRATE MOTOR!!!!!!! thats a $4000 dollar motor with 0 miles!!!!

im in the same boat as u with the whole leaving the area thing...i deploy june 14th...but they said as soon as i get back to come and get the test

i hope that helps

take it to criswell nissan on 355, I have all the bolts on as well and they took care of me no questions asked. Ask for Chris, tell him Kirstin sent you. He treated me great, no problems.

He will ask for oil change records though. I do mine myself so I only had a spreadsheet with the dates of my oil changes, and that was good enough for me.

I don't see any relationship between oil consumption and you mods. The only possibly problematic mod is the spacer. Take it off.

I think he was talking about how some stealerships will void the warranty if they see mods on the car. So i believe he just suggested a place who would check the car with mods with no problem.

Edit: oops miss read!

It's all in your head. Oil consumption does not exist!

If you have test pipes, and bad exhaust valve seals your car would be smoking like a diesel at idle and light throttle.

I had this issue and the smoke was crazy, and I was going through a quart of oil every 500 miles.

I burn about half a quart every 3000 miles now with frequent track abuse, but no smoke anymore. Most of it is going in the catch can.

Read my Thread, I went through that hell. In the end with the way gas prices are going and the never ending flow of issues I sold my Z.

A friend of mine who works as a mechanic has said that Nissan engines are great new, but start to burn oil as they age... I tell him that if you take care of the car, that shouldn't happen, but now I am starting to question my logic. Hopefully as more Z's age, this won't become a common trend, especially with the '07's

Oil consumption does not get better with age unfortunately, which made me sit and think for a while........ as the car gets older and I rack up more miles and warranties expire, you can only imagine what the situation would have been had I decided to keep the car Z is definately fun car but just the issues are mind boggling IMO

Go to Nissan of Chantilly if possible, they are a great crew and will listen to what you have to say.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but what was the result? It seems I may be burning oil also.
