Damn dude! That sucks! Unbelievable that a crew could be that clean in stripping a car. No dents or broken parts and as you said there was no alarm or dog barking or anything. Ridiculous!!! Hope your insurance covers this! Good luck with replacing everything man!

This happened to me just yesterday! And I live not too far from the OP off Norbeck Rd. My street is in the middle of nowhere on a culdesac. Very little volume.

Seriously, do people drive around neighborhoods just checking cars?? They went through my car and luckily all I had in there that was expensive was a ski jacket. I hope they like my grease stains and paint overspray all over the jacket.

Yeah, I had a duct in the bumper. It wasn't Varis, but basically the same thing. And I know precisely how I positioned it, so believe me, if I see any Zs with a duct (especially black Zs), I'll be taking a close look.

I'm pretty certain my kid was not involved (I know you guys were joking), because he's as busted up about this as me. I let him drive it for the first time only a few weeks ago, and had promised him some more behind-the-wheel time soon, so he's pretty p!ssed at the monkeys who did this.

The car is STILL in my driveway. My insurance company is great, but the aggravation has already begun. They set up a towing service to pick it up yesterday to take it to the dealer, but signals got crossed and the tow couldn't get there before the dealer closed. Luckily I have a car cover, which I put on last night, cuz I knew it was gonna start raining. Tow truck driver showed up at 7:30 this morning in the pouring rain, and of course he couldn't carry the car with the cover on it (and who knows how long the thing would sit on the dealer's lot once it got there), so, because I don't want my engine getting soaking wet on top of everything else, I kept the car and left the cover on until the weather improves. Which means the whole process gets delayed for days cuz the tow driver didn't get there yesterday when he said he would. I've already got a headache from the gritted teeth, and I lost a lot of sleep last night checking on the car every damn hour. Irritating.

Interesting coincidence: A buddy of mine has a friend in Gaithersburg who owns an Evo, and, over the weekend, this guy's car was broken into in a similar fashion to mine. The thieves disarmed the alarm, got inside and stole approximately $11,000 worth of stuff, primarily his two front seats(!). Like with me, these thieves had a specific agenda, and like with me, they knocked off a Japanese performance car. Fascinating, no?

I hope Montgomery County cops look at the big picture and can see the pattern here. These thieves are bold and fast and precise and they're going after specific stuff. Keep your eyes open, Mid-A!!

I wish, theres been a lot of vandalism and thefts around my neighborhood lately. Cops never looked into it. My friends car also got broken into, but nothing was done.

I also hope cops do try to look for a pattern, but I doubt they are.

I assume you are both in the suburbs and seriously... suburban cops have just about NOTHING else to do so that should not be their attitude.

the only other thing they have is township revenue gathering by blanketing the community with tickets. i.e. 'not doing their stated job'.

pisses me off when that sort of attitude prevails.

Just out of curiosity does this look like the work of pros? Special order parts through a network of thieves?

Sorry for your loss. Thieves will burn in hell.

The stock alarm is the biggest joke. All it does is lock your doors.

in the past i kept the valet key hid in the car for when i locked myself out/lost keys. living in bmore changed that real quick. luckly they only took a few parts, honestly not all that bad. On a side note where are you getting it fixed? imperial or royal autobody do nice work and is in the area.

Seems this would have to be pros for a job this big. Keep an eye out for local import meets, your parts may turn up there. When I had my Corvette and lived at a townhouse I used to get the glass roof stolen every year just before Corvettes at Carlisle in August. $1K for the roof replacement 3 years in a row. Theives -

Update: This afternoon my insurance company declared the car a TOTAL LOSS! The thieves cut a a couple wiring harnesses (how many does the Z have?) and for that fact as well as everything else broken & stolen, USAA is totaling it. Had the crooks uncoupled the connectors, it would be salvageable. As it is, they basically severed the car's jugular.

Interesting side note: when the insurance adjuster was going over the car, he found a screwdriver that did not belong to me under the driver's seat. Should I be surprised the police didn't find it first? I know the perps used gloves, but maybe something concrete could be revealed by this. We'll see if the cops are even interested.

Anyway, the whole thing breaks my friggin' heart. I loved that car.

I haven't talked $$$ with the insurance yet, but the car was in cherry condition and had less than 20K miles. I'm hoping I'll get more than enough to pay off the rest of my loan and pick up something nice.

Of course, I'd love another Z (although I'm still not sure about the 370), but I'm a little gun shy about putting a nice ride in the driveway anytime soon.

However, if I let these loser criminals determine what kind of car I get, the fockers have won, haven't they?

Screw them!

I am surprised that doesn't make it more difficult for you to deal with them. if someone wanted to get out of a car, now they know how.

and also, the alarm has an immobilizer from what I recall.

and yeah, bring that screwdriver to them, but don't touch it with your hands!

honestly, the cops really suck...they dont want anything to do with the evidents....seen it toooooo many times...lol...

as for the $$$ and nicer car, hopefully you get the payoff, @ least, hopefully you have gap if not...so you dont carry the negative equity...

dont let the thieve keep you from what you want, after something like THAT they prolly wont come back, not like they stole a radio, or rims... they went all out...

check some local body shops... just a last work of advice...you see a 350, you might find a shady deal, alot of theives dont conver there track very well for too long...

GL with it all, dont sweat it its just MATERIAL...

Im not gunna say all cops are like that, but a good amount of them around the DMV share that attitude.

If cops around our area dont take their job seriously... then whats the point of having cops at all?
