SEMA never took 75 cars on a Skyline Drive Cruise. I will talk with the Corvette Club, and see how they organise their cruise. I read the Special Use Permit rules. The rules are as confounding as the tax code.
Rhetorical Q. If we were so obviously a "GROUP" requiring a special use permit, then why did they let us in? We were 50 strong at the gate when I entered.

I assume that the ticket takers were overwhelmed by the number of cars. At some point they realised that we were a group, and radioed the park police.

Special use permits for events may be authorized by the Superintendent subject to the same criteria as other
special park uses provided that:
• There is a meaningful association between the park and the event
• The event contributes to visitor understanding of the significance of the park.

With this criteria in place, I doubt if I can justify a permit.

My apologises for promising a leisurely Sunday drive, then everyone getting hassled by the park police. It was certainly not my intention to turn everyone into criminals.
I approached one of the park cops to see why the various 350Z/G35 groups were being pulled over. I explained that I organised the cruise. Big mistake. I went from organiser to head criminal in charge of vehicle mayhem. Asked if I had a Special Use Permit , the Chief explained that we had upset the patrons, and ordered that we vacate the park immediately at VA211.
The Chief took my licence and registration, and said that I will be investigated for violating Title 16, U.S. Code and Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations, 2.50.
Despite the cops and being ordered to leave the park, turnout was nothing short of incredible!

Sorry to hear this, I know from some past experiences watching others get harrased that you never want to own up to organizaing one of these things once the authorities get involved.. regardless thanks for setting it up, it was alot of fun, as always..
the few times I have done skyline with the corvette guys, I am pretty sure they had a permit.. everyone met before entering the park, and signed in with the organizer, we then had a police escort heading towards the entrance..

Unfortunately I think so.
Interesting that we make it from Manassas to Front Royal without a single cop incident. Trouble starts after entering the park. This is Skyline Drive Cruise #12 BTW. I think we were just to big to remain under the radar so to speak.

Want us to start a bail fund?
Well the other 30 of us cruised around till 5 and then headed down 211 with no troubles from any rangers or LEOs. Sorry to hear about yalls (yeah I said yalls) group.
We have a lot of video and pictures to sift through. I saw so many people with cameras I'm going to make a thread just for posting the skyline pictures and videos. BRB

We made it up to meadow by 2:30-3pm and we were the only ones up there (me and 4 other ngc guys). We didn't find out about the tribulations until some other people caught up to us on our ways back. We didn't violate any speed laws, but we only stopped at about 2 rest stops. I did see the lotus coming back in the other direction though. We rode back on 211 around 5pm, and had a few police pace us and there was definitely a few speed traps waiting for us. As far as I know no one was pulled over.
Big thanks to Davidv for organizing the event (regardless of police bs).
