Default Raced 93-98 (?) Mustang...

It was one of the older Mustangs (the generation right before this current one) Friendly encounter on Northern Blvd, We ran to 60... this time I had a PERFECT launch at 3000 RPMs with a small chirp, just from the launch I walked him handily, because I had the jump and I had the launch, had 2 car lengths minimum, shut down at 60... guy smiles, his girl stares, and it was a fun race. Ah, I love having my car back

Those mustangs are dogs. Even hooked up civics beat them. Try a newer 99+ or an old 5.0 mustang for a challenge.

Yep they are. I read this story on one of the Mustang sites written by a guy with a 96-98 GT. He was pissed because he was at a light and ended up being smoked by a WRX. With FOUR people in it.

I have a friend from school who has a 98 GT, which is stock, I think. Best he got in the quarter with it was a 15 flat.

They usually sound like they can go real fast though...

I think he was talking about the GT not the V6 Just kidding but the newer 99+ GT's are very similar in straight line performance as the 350Z. It is definitely a driver’s race.

Drivers race from a stop to 80....but from a roll or after 80 from a stop, the stang is going to get WALKED...BAD...I've done it twice already. Hell I used to pull on the 99+ GT 5-speeds on the highway with my bolt-on maxima.

You can disagree if you want...but that's been my experience.

The two cars weigh the same...and the Z has almost 30 more HP and a trans that is geared for midrange to topend unlike the stang that is geared for the 1/4 mile.

I am not going to disagree I have not raced a 350Z yet.

But my car does not weigh the same a the new 350Z my car tips the scales at just under 3200lbs I do have a coupe.

I don't see how you can say my car is geared for the 1/4 3.27:1 rear gears are hardly 1/4 gears.

1st gear 3.37 * 3.27 = 11.01
2nd gear 1.99 * 3.27 = 6.50
3rd gear 1.33 * 3.27 = 4.34
4th gear 1.00 * 3.27 = 3.27
5th gear .67* 3.27 = 2.19

I would like to see what the 350Z trans gears and final drive is, does anyone know????

Dyno numbers for my car bone stock 227 RWHP 268 RWTQ. I now have a Magnaflow cat-back which maybe is good for 10RWHP not sure haven't dynoed it again.

I found someones dyno numbers on this board for the Z 238.9 RWHP 228 RWTQ Those are good numbers but hardly 30 more then my car. Plus they were the highest numbers I founds most Dynos were in the 333 area. Remeber I don't car what the manufacture rates the car I care what happens on the Dyno and track they are the only real numbers.

I have yet to go to they track with my stang but I use to go when I had my WS6 and have witnessed 13.9@101MPH traps at Silver Dollar raceway in GA many times from bone stock 99+ 5spd Stangs. So I also can't see where you say after 80 the stang gets walked. If pulling one car is walking someone that maybe but I don't call that walking away.

I like the 350Z I think is a great looking car I just don't think the 99+ Stangs get enough respect due to the lame *** car that Ford put out in 96 - 98. I mean 180 RWHP out of a V8 is sorry. Even with all the bolton's they barely break 210RWHP.

So I am not disagreingwith you just pointing out a few things.

I'll agree that a STOCK 99+ Mustang might get walked by a Z, from a roll, at 80mph. In part due to it's gearing and aerodynamics(wind drag). But, how do you figure the Mustang is going to get "Walked", from a stop after 80 when they both trap around the same in the 1/4mile, 98-100mph.

To themyst, the 94-95 Mustangs had the 5.0 engine and the 96-98 had the 4.6. So though they make look the same(the 93 is a Fox body), to other drivers, the engines are different. Both are slow, until modded. Nice kill nontheless

Max HP is not everything. Lets look at the full power curves of both. Now can we agree that stock to stock, it's a drivers race? (Graph stolen from stangnet)

Thanks, I have been looking for that info and couldn't find it.

This tells me that the 350Z is better geared for the 1/4 mile in comparison to the 99 + Mustang GT.

ok...I don't care what # you guys come up with....I've run TWO 99+ Mustang GT 5-speeds from a roll...and WALKED both of them. So believe what you want.

BTW - take a look at that graph when the Z shifts at redline, in each gear shift...the Z will end up OVER 5000 rpms going into the next gear...so in 2nd gear and above during the race between the two cars...the Z will be making more hp AND more torque 90% of the time...

I never said you didn't win but you have to remember that each car has a different drive. So you ever think you beat the drive and not the car??? Just because it was a rolling race doesn't mean driver doesn't matter. So many people don't know who to drive it isn't even funny. I highly doubt a stock 350Z can walk a 99+ GT with equal drivers.

From a roll, the Z will walk a equally driven GT. I think from a standstill it would be dead even. The Z does trap about 1 mph or so faster than most stock GT's I have seen with compitent drivers.

Driver error did NOT play a part in either race.

Neither of them missed a gear.

You have to at least give people the credit of being able to put the pedal to the floor.

Now you could say that BOTH drivers were in the wrong gear...but if they were...I would have KILLED them REALLY bad vs. what actually happened. (I beat them both by about the same amount)

We would both hit it...stay even for about 2 seconds, and then I'd start to WALK AWAY....not RUN....walk. I probably had 3-4 carlenghs from 70-110.

Now if it was one GT in one situation..then hey...could have been driver error. Plus I ran NUMEROUS 99+ GTs with my bolt-on maxima...it was basically a drivers race between my max and the GT. My max is no where near as quick as my Z....and it's been tested. I was worried when I got the Z that it would only be about as quick as the max....boy was I wrong.

As for my Maxima's 1/4 time...that's AVERAGE for a max with the bolt-ons that I had...some have hit 14.0-14.1.

Well even if that is the case which it could possibly be doesn't much matter to me anyway After all who stays stock.

When I am done modding I will disappoint if I am not hitting 320RWHP naturally aspirated

See now you are going to make me have to get a super charger as well

Just kidding I won't be doing that anytime soon. I think 320RWHP will do me just fine. I am only looking for a 12.X second street car. I have no need to go faster.

yea...tell me about it...I don't see the point in DAILY driving anything above 400whp....

I'll be happy with about 350-370rwhp in a turbo Z....

2003 GT with a buncha bodykit junk - lowered got walked on the freeway 60-100mph.

2000+ something Mustang Cobra lowered with body kit basically walked me like a silly dog. He didn't run away but he pretty much moved right on past me.

The Cobra was a sad loss but hey... it's a Cobra and I accept that. Everything else I have walked away from

BMW 850Ci
Accords V6 coupe (tricked)
Buick (New and BIG)
Camaro (older)
A8 (brand new *** whippin)
lowered n souped Civic (poop pipe)
996 (we had fun hehee - closer then u can imagine)
