Thge EVO would give the Z a hard time, but the LS1 boys and New Cobra will eat a EVO for dinner .......even with AWD,,.the evo doesn't produce enough hp.
With the weight of the evo it would need to produce around 340 hp to have a chance against a stock cobra. The US EVO's...only run high13's- low 14's....at a slow 98-99 mph. The power to weight on the V8's in this case is a whole lot higher...

I understand in the 1/4 the Evo would not win as long as the driver of the LS1/Cobra could launch the car. My only point was that with its AWD the car would easily get the jump on just about anything out there that didn't have slicks or was AWD itself. Additionally, I'm not a drag guy, I'm more into AutoX, road race, etc. The Cobra is about raw power, not about handling finesse or overall athletisicm. Give the Evo aftermarket some time and you'll easily see 350+hp cars with little mods/$. The 4G63 used in the car is tried and true and has a huge mod potential.

Yeah, I'm impressed. To be honest I am quite impressed with the V6 altima. For it being a FWD, peg-legged roomy sedan it flies. I had thought about getting one for my wife, but she really wanted a 4Runner b/c we also like the lake and a boat is going to be in the picture.
Yeah, the 4G63 is really good at taking mods. I think one of its secrets is its internals are pretty good stock. That, and it has a cast iron block that can withstand a lot of power. I think the first thing to go in any of those cars with power is the tranny. They aren't weak, but with enough torque you can twist about anything.

It will be a fast ride, and since it has a big 16G factory turbo it should be able to handle 350 hp no problem, but stock they won't be a nightmare for ne quick LS1 f body/ Corba on the roads, unless they turn the boost up, then maybe they'll hit low 13's/high 12's.
The U.S. EVO weighs Over 3000 lbs, around 3200 i think. Has around 270 hp stock......the 1/4 mile times for the version comin to our shores is gonna be around a 13.8@98-99 mph. Its all weight to power..Here we are not gettin the lighter(200 lbs) and more powerful EVO from Japan.

The fancy diff is called ACD (active center differential). The US STi will be getting something similar called DCCD (Driver controlled Center differential). The European and Japanese Evos also got AYC (Active Yaw Control). This at first worried me, but without these items on the car it is more raw. Honestly the ACD/AYC really make a bad driver good. There were 3 settings on those components; gravel, tarmac, and snow. I don't know the exact torque bias on the settings, but basically anything other than tarmac was front torque biased. 
The STi's DCCD is nice b/c you can transmit up to 65% of the torque rearward. This is good thing for the STi since it has always been more of a car that understeers like a hog. The STi likes to be thrown into a curve with an AWD powerslide and it seems it always has been the kind of understeer in this comparo!
The Evo and STi will still be great rivals. I personally feel that the electronic diff would be more to replace/repair down the road. European Evo owners have told me that the AYC ECU goes out sometime. Under warranty usually, but that's like $800!
