Anyone race a G35 coupe??
Has anyone had any experience racing a G35 coupe?? Ever since Car and Driver has been saying that their G35 has out accelerated every Z they have tested I have been looking for a G35 to play with... of course, I have not even seen one yet. Since the G35 is heavier and has (slightly) less hp, I would expect the Z would beat it, but I wanted to know if anyone has had any real world experience...
I have seen a bunch and I rev at all of them but they never bite. They are normally older guys who are driving the car but dont drive it to its full potential. Anyways, there has to be someone out there with one who will run somebody. I just have to find him/her.

btw, I just got a CAR magazine (euro mag) they got the Z to do 0-62 in california in 5.5 seconds (it was a base or enthusiest based on the wheels).

Handling is related to the better tires the G35 got.
Despite me being a proud G owner, I will agree that the Z is faster than the G in the hands of the same driver in any situation.
If you look at the average of performance numbers from the many diferent sources, the Z does better. There's no question there's a preponderance. A one time number from C&D proves nothing. With the same tranny and slightly less horses, this only makes sense.
Brothers, Pan.

Just go pick up the latest Car and Driver or visit the website... here is the quote from the website (caranddriver.com).
"Lest you think these aesthetic compliments are damning with faint praise in this sporting test, the G35 was no slouch in the performance department. Clocking 14.2 seconds at 100 mph in the quarter-mile, this G coupe was quicker than the last 350Z we tested (December 2002), despite being 137 pounds heavier (3500 versus 3363) and motivated by seven fewer ponies (280 versus 287). With 60 mph available in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 155, this is one fast coupe. "

That much difference in weight alone would create a noticeable difference, given the same driver and same conditions. The engines are nearly the same output and the trannies are exactly the same. Their G would have to be a factory freak or the conditions extremely ideal for it to run that fast.

I can't see how the G35 can beat the 350Z but who knows they are really close as far as there stats go.
7HP difference
I am willing to bet that is nothing more then a marketing decision to keep the sportier 350Z a head numbers wise. Looks like the same exact engine to me.
You never know what the manufactures are going to do to market cars after all the bottom-line for them is car sales.
Just look what GM did with the LS1 in the Vette it is rated at 350 HP in the Camaro it is rated at 315 HP. However on the dyno they put out about the same. MARKETING
It is just funny how so many believe what ever the manufacture says.

i would say that there is not enough difference in either car to make it anything other than a driver's race. but you also have to look at the models of the Z and G that you compare.......an auto with leather and nav will lose any advantage that it had to a 6 sp coupe.

I actually just got home from a little run-in with a G35. It was the light(aqua) blue color that needed to be run through the car wash, it was filthy! It was drivin by a lady with a child passenger. I passed her and reved and she sped up to catch me. We sat at a light and when it turned green I immediatly put a car length on her and she shut down(I have drag radials). I was dissapointed because I know the real power in these cars is made up top. Oh well. It was an auto so Im not sure how it would have turned out anyways. She eventually passes me(almost a ricer fly-by) and I gave her thumbs up and turned off. It was fun even though it wasnt much.

I recently picked up a G35....basically it won over the Z because of the back seat...
In any case...I consider myself a pretty good stick- I use to race a naturally aspirated mustang in Open Comp (.400 pro tree) back around 97-98-99- it was a 95 that ran 12.50s@109....
As soon as I get a chance, I'll hit Englishtown and post my slips. The car seems pretty quick, I can get some crazy tirespin on the 1-2 shift which was a neat surprise.

It is definitely a drivers race. The auto in the G35 (sure it's the same as in the Z, is a fast auto) could easily make a G35c smoke a bad Z driver with a manual. Vice versa the same could happen. It is a drivers race either way. I have yet to race a G35c, but I raced a G35 four door in the 2003 Maxima 6spd I was driving while waiting for my Z to come in. That 2003 maxima was crazy fast, almost to the point where I think it kinda sucks that it encroaches on Z performance in a straight line. I raced an auto G35 four door in the rain so I was fighting for traction (no traction control on the 3.5 SE Maxima 6 spd). I still smoked him bad.
Ok, so that had nothing to do with the thread, but interesting nonetheless.

I've raced one
A race between the Z and G35....like said above, I believe would be a very close race, and would more or less come down to the drivers.
I think it would be a coin toss, basically.

Well, if anyone wants to give it a shot, I wouldn't mind either showing my tail lights to ya or getting smoked.....you never know, it could be a complete draw!! I have raced a CLK430 and smoked it pretty bad three times from a dead stop. Too bad that car isn't the same. I do think that the Z would win, unless i get a good jump or just some good shifts....
