Default Racing and shifting to 2nd

When I run it hard, from 1st to 2nd it always grinds. I always make sure the clutch is to the floor.

Am I Shifting too quick ?

Anyone else have this problem?

I tried a search but didnt come up with much.

EXACT SAME PROBLEM here.

Took it to the dealership. The service manager told me that they will order me a new transmission BEFORE they even looked at the car.
I took them for a spin, verified that there's a grind, & thats it!

My new trans should arrive within the next few weeks.

It was a weaker synchro design, that was fixed after the first few thousand Z's rolled off the lots. You need to take the car in & have them order you a new transmission.

It is just one of the risks we took buying a first model right when it comes out

Good Luck!

I would think they would try replacing the syncros first... but a new tranny? Wow...

There is no way in hell I would let them tear my tranny apart. I mean, a "rebuilt" transmission @ 5K miles. No way.

If it was something easy like syncros.....unless you know someone (GM), they aren't gonna replace a whole tranny for something that MIGHT cost them a couple $100 tops...

Example...T/O bearing in my car was going out...I knew what it was....I'm not going to ask for a brand new $2K tranny to be dropped in my car for a part thats a couple of bux, and their labor

Now, if it's a major problem (like Nissan knows that the grinding is a problem with the tranny....not just the syncros)...yeah...they'll replace the tranny....

thats what a waranty is for man

It only does it when I redline 1st and speed shift to 2nd. If I did this with a person from Nissan in the car, they will probably **** their pants and then tell me that driving the car like that is the problem. I only have 2600 miles.

I agree with you. That's why I waited until my car had 5K miles until I took it in. The problem was there from the start. If I remember correctly the first time I took it to redline after break in, the grind appeared. I though I made a mistake & ignored it.

Yes it only happens at redline & when shifting very fast. But hey, a problem is a problem.... You didn't spend $30K+ for a car thats NOT perfect.

There's no hurry though. You have until 60K miles to get that fixed under warranty, unless it gets worse

When riding with the tech, you have to explain it to them that it only happens ONCE IN A GREAT BIG WHILE when you drive it fast. This way, they're ready for a redline shift, hehe.

Plus, my car doesn't alsways grind. I had to take it to redline about 3 times with the Nissan tech before the tranny did a grind.

Good Luck

Delerships can deny warranty work for abuse....you think you can go to a drag strip...blow the motor and they're going to warranty it?
