Actually, I am placing the owner at fault for winning most of the road course confrontations. Both cars have strong suits that in my case would force a draw given each of the vehicles' performance. I have just seen way too many C5 and Z06 owners who lack experience...in my personal opinion, it's probably due to the price difference.

Most people can afford a $30K "practical" car whereas only a few lucky SOBs can actually afford to spend $55-57K on a 2-door "impractical" car. Most of the driving schools and track days I attend involve older owners preferring Vettes which is great but I think it takes little longer for most people to save up for a Z06 than an EVO...hence the lack of experience on most of the Z06 owners.

On a side note, in my car at Gingerman the fastest lap I have ever recorded is a 1:40 whereas a couple of guys (one owns a Z06 and the other owns a 930) have recorded 1:34s with my car whereas that would have been impossible in their cars with street tires. Once again it's the driver.

What the hell does N2O have to do with ricers? Maybe the fact that you need it to break into the 15s?

Hey BlackDemon,
What have you done to your ls1? Those are impressive figures in your sig. Just curious

I am currently replacing my suspension and replacing my turbo with a PTE 60 trim. ..previous turbo upgrade netted an 11.78 @ 120.xx. Hoping to be little faster, like most people on this forum.

All I have to say is that not everything is about speed. There's no doubt that the Evo 8 is a beast and has numbers to back it up. I admit it'll take my G from a stop, but I don't race stoplight to stoplight. I'm not going to buy something just because it's fast. Evo 8 is only ugly mother. I'd take a Z06 or Z over an Evo 8 anyday. Or in my case, my G As for some 16 year old punk in an Evo 8 showing me up? The women I date don't even give a damn about racing and would see it as being immature. I'm past that now.

My friend is up at Gingerman every week in his 02 Z06. I believe the best time they have gotten out of it was a 1:30 IIRC on race tires and 01 PF pads, otherwise the car is stock. This was with a professional driver BTW. I believe the track record is somewhere around 1:22. From what I have read, a properly driven Z06 will give a good spanking to the EVO.

the $1700 upgrade is just parts, I would imagine.. But how reliable is the car with the boost turned up? it's boosting 19psi stock already..

Saw the comparison between STi and Evo last weekend on MotorWeeks, I think the stock Evo ran a 13.8sec 1/4miles and 5.0sec from 0-60. Not bad though.. mucho respect.

Black Demon, Thanks for the info. Sounds like a great car...fortunately for me I don't see too many ls1s modified the way you have yours set up.

Max2000jp, Glad to hear that your friend is using the Z06 the way it was designed and not only that but great time (1:30). I can only dream of closing in on a time like that. Maybe one of these days I will run into him. Just too many things to upgrade/repair on my car after 121,000 miles and 11 road course trips. I don't know who actually mentioned whether or not the EVO should hold up to the abuse of higher boost, but if it's anything like my motor it shouldn't have any problems if the car is well maintained and tuned properly (ie. running a little rich). It's the transmission that really takes the fun out of the DSM line of vehicles. I am on my fourth one. The first two were the stock tranny and then on the third one I replaced it with a Lancer Evolution 3 tranny. That went a few years ago so I am now running on a rebuilt EVO tranny.

I suspect that the car will take much more boost than it is running. It does have an iron-block, which is good for lots of boost... With the performance that I have seen been squeezed out of Mitsubishi's engine, I like to think of it as a 4 Cylinder Supra 2Jz engine.... and we all know that owners run MAD amounts of boost on those engines.... which also have iron blocks.....

But to be honest, I would not worry about how much boost the engine will take... Thing is, With turbo cars, you can upgrade to a bigger turbo and make 50% more power running less boost than the car comes with stock... In other words, an Evo owner can run a bigger turbo, run 15 pounds of boost, and STILL make WAY more power than he did running 19psi on the stocker....

With turbos, it is more about FLOW (CFM) and less to do with PSI (boost)

As said before by the DSM owner himself, it is not the engine that will grenade, it is the drivetrain. Time will tell...

my dad has a friend that owns a major tuning shop here in Dallas and he has managed to stick a turbo on his Z06. omg! he ran a 9.4 at 172 and that was without slicks or N20. takes all thoughs evo mods and stick em on a Z06, and the EVO is screwed. gotta love American Muscle.
